My taco on a Yamaha xj 900 1983 has stopped working . taco spiked then just stopped
Look behind your taco there is a usualy a black colored cable about the size of a cigarette. Unscrew it. Its a rotating inner shield with an outer protective shield. Verify if the rod is still present and then start your engine. If the rod is spinning you need a taco. If not follow the cable. Its plugged on top of your valve cover. Unplug it from your engine start it again and verify if its rotating. If yes then you need a new inner cable. If not you should take it to a restauration shop cuz they will need to remove the valve cover to see whats going on.

I have an xj 900f but have no spark.
I have
Hi I dont have the exact resistances for the pick ups but a kawa around the same era is 400-500 ohms and I suspect the xj shoud be similar.
It is unlikely both pick ups have failed, but they will both need similar resistances to each other, and infinate resistance to ground.
You can somtimes check by touching a screwdriver to them to set off a spark, but as you have no spark to either coil , this wont help in your case.
It sounds like a power supply problem as they both dont work. Check the throttle kill switch, and the ignition switch. When the key is turned off, it switches a wire to ground the same as a kill switch, to stop the motor, so it may have an internal problem
Yamaha xj900 back firing through carbs can you
could have an air leak in the carb boots or bad air fuel mixture. check the spark plugs, if they're black system is too rich. if they're white, they're lean. either have an air leak going to the cars or just need adjusting. also inspect your air filter.
