The faulty regulator can cause this problem.Get the voltage at regulator checked. If its weak or shorting it can cause such problems.

Also try this thing.Remove the main fuse for 5 minutes then reinsert it.The main fuse located near the battery compartment.Remove this main fuse, wait 5 minutes then re-0insert it then check. Many a times this reset the problem. But if that is not helping then get the regulator( alternator) checked. Also check the battery connections and ground.Anywhere its shorting or getting loose.--------This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

STOP RIDING IT! You have a few moderate issues going on that need to be fixed as soon as possible! If black smoke is coming out of your exhaust, then you probably need your carbs cleaned, and need to check and see if oil is some how making it into the cylinders. Oil leaking from the air cooler means you have a break in your radiator, either the hoses or the radiator itself. Fortunately these are rather inexpensive, but the longer it goes, the more expensive it becomes. Also check your oil level to make sure you're not below the recommended amount of oil in the engine. This oil does a few things, keeping your engine cool (radiator), keeps stuff moving (pistons and such), and also acts as the lubricant for your clutch plates and gears. For parts I use
Bike Bandit but the site also has diagrams that you can use to figure out how stuff fits together. Also the manuals are available online which offer help for maintenance and such. I hope this helps, and if it does, please feel free to give me a thumbs up! Have a great day and good luck! Ride safe!
Yamaha XJ600 -84. Have problem
The problem is bent shift forks. They will soon get to where you can't shift at all. This is an expensive repair. Parts can be hard to come by on a bike as old as yours. The motor
comes out of the bike then turned upside down for removal of the bottom case.
The clutch, shift shaft, flywheel, electrics, gears and gear shafts gotta come
out so you can get to the bad fork. There's much more but the idea is that you
are better off having the shop do the repair unless you have experience, are
extremely mechanically inclined, and have the tools. The bad news is that a
shop is going to charge around $1500 for the repair. Some shop mechanics also
repair bikes at home. If you find one, you can save $400 or so. Please rate my answer.
Charge rate at battery terminals
For the 12 volts battery the reading on the terminals when the engine is Rev up should be more than 12, say closer to about 15 volts. Now there can be two reasons, first of all if the charging /regulatore circuit is faulty this can cause low voltage/amperage to flow.
Secondly if the battery is faulty it can drain off the voltage/current, make sure that all the points of main voltages, the battery terminals, the altternator and the ground are tight.
the regulator is normally fixed on the alternator body or a place closer which can be traced with the wires leading from the alternator.
My xj 600 not spark in
take the spark plugs ou but the xj 600 has 2 coils so take the corrasponding plugs out two at a time for each coil put one plug at a time on the engine block turn the engine over look for a spark between the electrodes when turning the engine over and if you cant see a spark buy a new sett of plugs and if you still dont see a spark follow th HT lead to the coil and replace that coil with a new or a working coil be carefull tho you dont want a shock of a plug or a coil its about 50,000 volts at low ampage it will hurt or could kill you if unsure ask a qualified mechanic.
Whats the best and easiest way to set the carbs on
Your problem is probably the sycronizing as long as you havent messed with the fuel screw or jetting. If you dont have a set of vacuum guages you can eyeball the slides in the carbs to at least get you by and you can usually get them pretty close. Find the carb that is directly linked to the cable. the other carbs are adjustable to that carb so you need to make all the other carbs identical to that one. Look at the gap from the bottom of the slide to the bottom of the bore of the carb on that base carb with the throttle at idle bike not running. With the adjustments on the linkage to the other carbs adjust the other slides to the same height as that base carb as close as you can. Measure if possible to get all the carbs as close as possible to each other. you may have to adjust the idle after. If the adjustments on the carbs are all cables, for example there is a cable to each carb directly connected to the slide just adjust each cable accordingly and achieve the same as above. make sure you have a little freeplay at the throttle when you are done. you can adjust that by the cable adjustment by the throttle which will keep all the carbs in sync
Clutch not responding to leever
u are going to have to trust me on this one. put the bike on its center stand with the front wheel touching a wall.now with the rear wheel off the ground and the bike running in nutral.pull the clutch in and put it into 1 gear.Keeping the rear wheel off the ground .if u feel that u have skills. have a friend hold the front of the bike down .and run the bike throw the gears.u dont have to give it that much gas.your just looking to free up the clutch plates. p.s i promise u this will work. JUST BECAREFULL!!!
