How do i adjust carb float and what are the specs
you can adjust a float by taking the little pan off of it and just bending the stop that goes to the needle valve , usually you do not have to do this to carbs , what is the problem you are having ,if to much gas is coming out , you needle could be stuck , I tap it with a little hammer but lightly to free it up , good luck if you want the specs you can goto their site and will find it there or buy a manual of your bike , ebay is a good place to find one , good luck
Hi,
I have a Yamaha xtz
Your ignition switch or starter button is stuck! Or the starter return spring is broken. I would look at the start switch to start with, sounds like it is stuck in the start position.
Raptor 660 idles but no throtle response
Turn off the gas and remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ). Get a set of the stock NGK spark plugs your bike came with. Check for spark on each cylinder before installing the plugs.
Now go to the idle and air screws on the outside of each of the carbs. IMPORTANT > > GENTLY turn both screws all the way in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn the screws EXACTLY one and one half turns outward.
SYNCHRONIZE THE CARBS
Remove the air filter and rubber fittings to allow you to see into the throat of both carbs. You may need a mirror to see inside. You need to be able to see the slides go up and down when you twist the throttle. Now turn the fitting where the cable goes into each carb such that there is just a bit of slack in the cable, 1/16" is plenty. Lock ONE of the cable adjusters down tight. All further adjustments will be made on the other carb.
With the motor turned off twist the throttle very slowly while looking at the slides. Both slides need to begin lifting at the exact same moment. If the slides don't raise at the exact same time then slowly twist the throttle until the locked adjuster slide just barely starts to move. Hold the throttle still and turn the adjuster on the other carb so that the slide on that carb just barely starts to move also. Now recheck the slide movement timing. Do this process until the slides on both carbs begin to raise at the EXACT same moment. Lock down the loose adjuster and re-check the slides.
BALANCE THE CARBS
Turn the throttle screw on the LEFT carb one half turn inward. Now start the engine and get it warmed up. With the engine running, remove the RIGHT spark plug wire. Adjust the idle speed on the left carb to the point where the engine just can't quite stay running and dies. Now put the loose spark plug wire back into place.
Now turn the throttle screw on the RIGHT carb one half turn inward. Restart and rev the engine. Next, remove the LEFT spark plug wire. Adjust the idle speed on the right carb to the point where the engine just can't quite stay running and dies. Now put the loose spark plug wire back into place.
Turn the idle screw on each carb EXACTLY ONE QUARTER turn outward and restart the engine. The engine will be probably be idling very fast. Adjust both the idle screws equally from this point to get to the desired idle speed. Congratulations, you have just synchronized and balanced your carbs.

What is standard timings in degees? want to detune
hi,might be able to help, firstly you wont be able to change the timing, the timing is preset on the pickup plate and is not adjustable, secondly ,the advance/****** feature of the timing is controlled by the cdi unit and once again not adjustable, the only way i can think of to detune the bike would be through the carb setup, going to smaller jets etc but if it is injected, then remapping the fuel system would be the other way, hope this helps..cheers
Not getting fuel to carb
is the fuel switch turned to " on ",is the line from tank to carb kinked, is the fuel filter blocked if fitted.?
Reverse is out (major grinding, and quad doesn't
It is a pretty big job for a weekend mechanic. You will need some special tools > Impact driver, torque wrench, expanding 'C' ring pliers, case splitter and flywheel puller. The entire engine, top end and bottom end must be torn down. Don't try it without the manual. The clicking noise is probably a broken tooth on a gear. ALWAYS replace gears in sets, ALWAYS. The grinding is most likely a bad bearing.
Can I take the rev limiter off of a Yamaha XT660Z,
Please do not take of rev limiter even if it can be done. It's in the ignition module. If you want more rev's buy a Dyna ignition and set your own limit plus you get more power. Go on line and put in "Dyna ignition"
and look for the best price. Not sure about gas tank - Sorry - Good luck
My 660 raptor quad is making like a humming/deep
Sounds like the carb has over flowed and filled the crankcase with gas.
You will need to drain the oil, and re-fill it with new oil at the proper amount. Also replace the oil filter.
Clean the air filter and replace the spark plug.
Clean the carb, making sure the float and float needle are functioning properly.
That should fix you up!

Yamaha raptor 660 bogs out at high rpms while in
As long as you haven't CHANGED any components like the exhaust or air filter (which typically require rejetting), you may want to try and clean and re-oil your air filter and air box. A clogged or dirty air filter will change your fuel/air mixture, expecially in the top end when the carb venturi is completely opened and needing to draw in the most air possible. hope this helps.
Oil change frequancy
There are several schools of thought on this. Some say you should change your oil every 3000 miles; others say every 6000 miles is fine. In any case, you should change it every 3 months.
