My xjr 1300 when cold engine is fine but when hot

Hi from Spain,

it could be related to timing chain tensioner malfuncion (try to check with another chain from other xj from a friend or dealer..) or missadjustment, this could be check easyly by removeing it and fitting it again properly. Further cheking should go trough cylinder head cover removal and investigate any kind of seizure damage, remove and check ( with service manual data) camshafts, drive sprockets, cam chain and cam chain guides.

BR.

Emilio.

How do i get to the front sprocket on thye

You need to take the clutch slave cylinder off first, Yamaha say drain the clutch down but no need! £ bolts hold it on 2 are long and bolt in to the engine (the one at 12 oclock and the one at 10 oclock) the third is short (at 3 oclock) this only bolts in to the thin alli cover so be careful putting thin one back in as it will strip the thread as easy aas you like!!! When this is removed the cover can then be un bolted, again Yamaha say remove the starter but no need, 2 small bots at the top and a longer one at the top also 2 bolts sunk in to the cover, you will need a long reach 8mm socket to get to these, when all bolts are removed the gear selector needs to be removed, I found the easiest what is to remove the root rest with the gear selector attached, 2 allen bolts and a securing bolt at the front of the gear selector, a screw driver will open the gap to get the gear selectof off and the cover will come off reveling the front sprocket. You will need a 36mm socket (think that was the size) and there will be a washer that is bent over the nut locking it in position. Torque settings for all the external bolts is 10nm and the front sprocket is 38nm. hope this helps

Hi i have a 2001 xjr1300sp, when its cold its hard

Check that the fuel tap is not on 'prime' (horizontal position). It should be switched to 'on' or 'reserve' (up or down for normal use. Also, check that the vacuum pipe to the carbs is not kinked. XJRs are buggers to start when the temperature is 0 deg C or less.

I have an Y Reg XJR 1300 SP, Rev Counter

This happens every time you first turn the bike on, just before you hit the start switch, right? That's normal...your bike has a "brain" that goes through a systems check when you turn the key.

My 02 XJR 1300sp apears to be leaking oil from the air box after a run, any ideas what is wrong?

This is a fairly common problem with older XJR's and is a result of a couple of things. First, check the oil for proper level. This is the most common culprit.

The xjr is 2007 model

Is the primary chain the correct tension? That will give that sound. otherwise the stator could be loose? Who knows. Take the side off and have a look, it would be a very expensive job if it fell apart whilst riding!!

Fuel coming (sometimes pouring) out of the airbox

Sounds like needle & seat in carbys could be sticking or float levels maybe to high when you turn your key on your fuel pump starts and this puts pressure on needle & seat and if floats are to high the petrol just keeps flowing Float is what stops petrol flooding the carbies, check minor things first like dirt in needle seat if you have a compressor give carbies a light blow out.
