2002 Yamaha YZF-R1 Questions & Answers
Idle to high when its warm up at 2000 rpm , how can i lower idle and at what rpm should at be at
Check it's not a tight accelerator cable issue & that there's some play in it at the throttle grip. If there's none, it might just be a case of slackening off the cable at the adjuster where it goes into throttle grip on the bars.
Assuming that's okay but the engine still revs high on idle speed, you'll have to lower the tickover by removing the left middle fairing to expose the engine. If you trace the accelerator cable, you'll see were it sits between the carbs or throttle body if your bike is fuel injected.
There's a tickover screw which will have to be turned out anti-clockwise to lower the revs.
It's not really a hard job to do if you know a bit about engines but if you don't, give the job to somebody who does.

My bike cooked a brand new battery? How do i fix?
Hi, remove all the fuses you can find. You'll need to hook an amp meter (ammeter) in series with the positive lead of the battery. Starting with a good battery, start replacing the fuses one by one until the ammeter jumps (shows electricity flowing) Now you know the circuit that is draining the battery.
No spark
Ken
need a bit more detail did you remove the electrics.
Usual thing is to start with a full charges battery.
Take the plugs out to make cranking easier and check plugs.
Have plugs been change with a know set of good plugs that spark?
Obviously this will have engine management system with multi plugs.
Use the work shop manual with a multi meter to check each junction from the battery through the ignition circuit.
Do all the other electrics work?
FLAT REAR TIRE
Hi, You need to remove the chain first. most of them don't have master links anymore so you'll need a Pin breaker tool (motion pro tools makes a good one). Then taking off the nut and taking out the rear axle is pretty straight forward. You can repair the now broken chain with a master link from your motorcycle shop or a new non master link, which you will need another tool to install. Motion pro again.

R1 02 model water pressure and leak
110 F or 110 C ... must have been F ... I dont think water actually exceeds its boiling point, though the engine could exceed that temperature. This temp is not all that hot when talking about coolant (F) - I suggest you have your cooling system serviced by your dealer for best results with your 11 year old motorcycle. You don't what a over heating problem for sure - it will destroy your motorcycle.

You say that you have spark,...so first things first,id check the carbs and make sure that you are getting fuel. If you are getting fuel, and spark, pull the plugs, and check the condition of the plugs. Are they wet, carboned up,white? And while you have them out,do a compression test on each cylinder. It should have at least 100 psi on each cylinder. The things you MUST have for a internal combustion engine to run are,...fuelsparkcombustionand correct timing.........start with the basics.
