CONVERT A YZ 250 INTO A WR 250
The YZ is a
dirt bike as is. The WR is a street bike and has more accessories on it.
- Remove the body parts you do not want to get broken. Turn signals, tail light, speedometer, tachometer and mirrors are the main things. Fenders and headlight are possibilities also but the fenders tend to keep mud off the the engine and your body while the headlight allows you to ride at night.
- Change to a larger rear sprocket. Two or three teeth will make a difference. This will make the bike to " quicker " off the line and out of turns and provide more torque than stock. Top end is a bit slower but with all the twists and turns you seldom get to top speed anyway.
- Get a heavier flywheel. Yamaha has one but the cost is about $105.00. An aftermarket flywheel may be an option that would cost less.

Nevermind those other answers, if its running on all 4the cylinders but just real sluggish and missing top speed then listen up, let's first rule out the possibility of a damaged impeller, now locate your airfilter box and remove the filter, just throw it away because last I checked dirt really doesn't settle on top of water, now locate your throttle body and remove the intake tube from it, now take out the 4 bolts that hold it on and find your flame arrestor element. I've dealt with this problem many times only to find out that the geniuses at Yamaha had installed this screen right after the butterfly which accumulates airfilter material and clogs

Happened to mine as well. Took 3 or 4 visits to the dealer before it finally happened when they were test driving, as before they did not believe me and thought i was running out of fuel! Turns out the fuel pump was faulty and was replaced with unit of different spec as the original type pumps were overheating and cutting out. The pump would work again when it had cooled down. The new different spec pump has worked fixed everything and now the scooter has not missed a beat. This should be fixed under warranty.
