Change plugs 1700 roadstar

There is a tool pouch under the seat...In it there is a tool for removing the spark plugs..

I would recommend that you at least remove the gas tank...It'll make it a little easier to remove and replace the plugs. But, before you remove the plugs...Take an air compressor with a blow gun and blow out the spark plug ports, so no dirt or debris gets into the cylinder. Remove one spark plug wire at a time...Blow the port out...Then remove the plug...Check it and if it's good, re-check the gap and reinstall the plug...Put the wire back on and move to the next plug. Repeat the above...

Make sure you don't cross-thread the plugs when you reinstall them...Make sure the wires are firmly on the plugs...And make sure you put the right wire on the right plug, which shouldn't be a problem if you only remove one at a time.

And also make sure when you reinstall the gas tank that the fuel lines are firmly seated...

Removing and replacing your spark plugs is fairly easy.

How do I check my ignition timing?

Your timing is integrated with your electronic ignition, very little moving parts and no direct contacts to wear down. Odds of it going out of time are slim to none, unless the shaft which spins the sensor is worn.

My 2001 yamaha 1600 roadstar backfires and cuts out just before I shift. It idle fines. it runs good between gears. It cuts out just when it get up in higher rpms, just before I shift.

Backfiring and cutting out liike this is probably a symptom of one or both of the following: too rich a fuel mixture, or too weak a spark. Take your spark plugs and see if they tips look tan or black. If black, your fuel mixture needs to be leaned out. Another possible cause is a dirty and or clooged air filter, which can reduce the air flow into the engine. Take it out, bang the dust and debris out. If it looks really dirty, replace it -- they're cheap. If your spark is too weak, you may also notice a loss of power, especially at higher revs. If none of these seem to be the culprit, have your ignition timing checked.

Why does the bike stall

check the side stand it may, as a lot of bikes do, have a switch to stall the bike when the stand is down to stop you pulling away with it down. these get covered in road dirt and water and do go faulty. hope this helps.

The carberator is loading up and it backfires at

Water condensation in the gas tank has made it into the carbs float bowls. The water kills the spark at times and the unburned gas is exhausted into the tail pipe. The next stroke or two the cylinder fires and the hot exhaust gas ignites the unburned gas mentioned previously. BANG! Just drain the float bowls to rid the water. Draining the gas tank would lessen the frequency of the problem.

How do you check the oil in a 2003 yamaha roadstar

all bike are to be checked in the upright position! then find out how much the bike takes from your manual if you dont have a manual ...do the following ..when you just change oil and not filter you will be adding less oil,"almost" all bikes take @ 3 quarts oil minimum, so what i do to be safe!! is always after draining is put in two quarts no problem, but with the third bottle i only pour in half.. drop oil cap back on and start the bike and let it run for a minute, the turn it back off, then check oil level, if it doesn't register anything on the stick or sight glass then your o.k. to add the rest. now take a reading, and only fill to almost full, i always under fill my bikes, because over filling will cause damage to internal bearing by the air bubbles from the splashing of the crank in the oil pan. Same as cars.
If you found this helpful can i get a rating?
Thanks

My clutch slips on excessive excilleration,I have

Unless you have had your clutch recently replaced it is probably starting to wear or it is not fully engaging. Some possible causes - the clutch lever is not allowing it to fully engage. Look at swivel by clutch cover and see if cable gets loose. Spring maybe weak or cable maybe binding. Your bearing on your clutch lever may also be worn out. Remove and inspect.

I am a semi-mechanically inclined person and want

Hate to tell you this, your bike does not have a carb. It is fuel injected. If the bike is running okay, don't fix it. If it runs poorly, let the dealer fix it. You don't want to get into the system and accidentally mess up the fuel mapping in the Fuel Injection system. These things get really technical very quickly. Best wishes.
