Will not turn over 2004 Yamaha XVS 650 Dragstar

Vstar 650 are pretty simple as far as the starting circuit.. as mentioned above make sure the battery is up to par.. charged doesnt mean anything. Take a voltage load test and make sure the battery is atleast 10 volts dc when the start button is pressed. If you hear a clicking sound when the start button is pressed that's a dead giveaway the battery is weak. If you hear nothing which I'm suspecting. Make sure obviously bike is in neutral. Clutch is in and side stand is up... the vstar has 3 main safety switches.. neutral/side stand switch and clutch safety switch.. both the side stand and clutch safety switches can be bypassed... two wire under clutch lever and two wire on side stand that can be followed up to just under the seat.. placing a paperclip between the electricle connector eliminates the switch and makes the bike think either the side stand is up or the clutch is in.. which gives you an answer if the bike turns over you have a faulty switch........... lastly if those pan out as not changing the no start condition. I have personally found corrosion inside the start button and kill switch which causes the starter solenoid to not even see a signal.. pull apart the switch carefully, mind you and clean the brass contacts with some scotch brite or light sand paper to clean em up.. dont forget some light dialectic grease... if it is still fighting you dont take the easy approach and just replace the starter solenoid. But make sure your getting a signal at the solenoid when the start button is pressed. Little patience and you'll get it

Just put on cobra drag

The ignition timing has to be reset as the pipes you have fitted have a different back pressure than the originals. Take it for a tune up and feel the difference. It would be a shame to not get maximum performance having bought some really good pipes!

Ive got a 650 xvs it started to missfire about

Tony, i would suggest first thing is to check the plugs and see if they are fouled, or if the front and rear are burning the same. when a diaphram goes bad it will make bike sluggish and not preform well above 1/2 throttle, and it can case bike to possibly foul a plug. so check the plugs first. then if you need more help just ask.

02 Yamaha xvs 650 dragstar classic that misfires when it warms up

First I would change all the spark plugs, and if that didn't make a difference then it sounds like the coil(s) are warming up and breaking down........when it starts to skip take a good pair of pliers with good rubber on them and pull each spark plug wire, when you get to the one that the running doesn't change then I would replace that particular coil

XVS1100 Dragstar, blue color of hrom pipes outer of cylindar 2.

Hi .... This is a common occurence, esp'ly with aftermarket pipes, where they are made from a single 'skin'. You can buy a special cream/polish solely to remove the discolouring. Make sure both spark plugs are a light tan colour which shows the mixture is OK. An old british bike trick was to wrap thick copper wire along the down pipe to disapate the heat.

I have a yamaha dragstar

If it has been sitting for a while I strongly recommend you remove the carburetors and clean them thoroughly, you will need to make sure you remove all the jets, especially the pilot jets because that is the smallest jet in the carb that will plug and it is often the one that will prevent the engine from starting.
Try using some WD40 in the back of the carbs when you try to start it after you clean the carbs. I don't like to recommend starting fluid because it is volatile and can easily catch on fire if the engine backfires.
I'd also recommend replacing the spark plugs as well. Make sure you have good fire. (turn the motor over with the plugs out and grounded on the head to make sure you can see the spark)
I also recommend pouring a small amount of Marvel Mystry oil down each spark plug hole to help "reseal" the rings. Remember that sitting is not your friend and you may have to get the rings back to life by using the special oil.
Just remember you need three basic elements to make an engine run:
  1. Air
  2. Fuel
  3. Spark
If you have all three of those and compression your engine will start.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
RSelvy
