I presume your Yamaha is a two stroke. There should be a gasket between the exhaust header pipe and the head.

This is normal. A slider gear engages into rectangular slots in a drive gear. The slots allow the dogs easy engagement into gear. The knock you are hearing is the engaging dogs striking each end of the driven gear. Please rate my answer, thanks.

IIRC, there is a brake switch which needs to be engaged when shifting into reverse.

Try putting in gear with the rear wheel off the ground (use a stand and secure the bike safely). If it does the same, then check if there is spark when you put in gear, in that case the problem is electrical, it is the kick stand switch. There is a safety kick stand switch that will turn off power off, that is faulty or stuck, test is done jumping the switch.

You will not go wrong with a Yamahauler, they last forever and are the number 2 maker of scooters and street bikes and dirt bikes, forget the junk Chinese bike, very poor quality and parts are hard to get..

all of the Yamaha scooter line and indeed all there bikes are very good machines, they are reliable with no significant problems, as far as engine life goes as long as the oil is changed on a regular basis with synthetic or synthetic blend motor oil it will last in excess of 50,000 miles, the price seems a bit high, $1300.00 would be a fair price, suggest u offer that and see what happens.

well, check mounting bolts at cylinder heads(black soot is a sign of loos bolts or bad gasket, the connecter clamp at muffler if it has one, and if all looks well, the baffels inside the muffler may be loose or rotten

Assuming fuel system is water free with fresh fuel and a new spark plug; then I would start by checking the pulser coil.

With the lights on low beam, note where the brightest part istrikes the garage door or what ever, then put it on high beam and note the brightest spot will go up and to the left. On two bulb headlightsbothe lamps work on hi and low
On4 bulb, hi beam all 4 are on and low beam only the two outside are on.

Thats Far to big a task if you are not a trained motorcycle mechanic, and do not have access to garage equipment and the correct repair manual. take it to a garage

I believe the spark is too week, high tension sparks should be crisp fat and blue with a hint of orange, a weak spark could be the result of a faulty ignition generator or coil, sometimes the spark is controlled by a Capacitor, when these break down the spark will be out of 'Kilter' the Yeti... also check main and starting jets as well as any fuel diagrahms, good luck the YETI

I suggest Castrol Syntec Actevo 10-40wt. Put a qt in first then check the dipstick w/bike level on level ground, top it up !....Good Luck to you my friend....Tim

This is a highly ill - eagle act to do. In the old days we would put an electric drill on the drive cable, but now they make them tamper proof so they only go one way. The bezels are crimped on so you can't get inside them. I expect modern one may be electronic. How will your insurance company know what mileage you have done? I have never known an insurance cancel or fine due to mileage. You should have just disconnected it when you got close to the limit. Buy a used one and use them for 6 months in turns. Make sure the fuel is getting to the valve and passing through it. Possible blockage in fuel line or in the tank.
