I have a 96 900 rf it runs fine up to 8000 rpm then it fall flat on its face almost like it is shut off, the tach falls to zero while this is happenning ,eventully it refires and run aslong as i stay under 8000rpm? any thoughts ? thx mike

replace the idle control sensor to get an idle speed above 800
run the fault codes as there may be more wrong that need fixing

sounds like cam sensor bad

is your car still running on carburetor engine? if yes, have your carburetor cleaned. while cleaning, replace the secondary jet in your carb. the normal primary/secondary jet for a 1.6cc engine is 105/135.

If the rpm is not actually changing with the tachometer the tach os displaying a fault code.....the 8000 rpm -zero and back up is the fault code for your fuel tank level sensor. Make sure you don't have a wire unplugged on the tank sensor.

i would have to agree with you on the check engine light.
now the rpm my 02 mustang used to do the same thing but never game me any problems hope this helps good luck

THROTTLE BODY needs to be taken apart and cleaned. Hand clean the sensor and idle valve, they are electric do not soak them, check them also, Idle valve likes to stick and position sensor likes to go out. HUNT

The most likely problem is that you need a new voltage regulator put in the alternator,the tach runs off of it and when the tach quits i think you will find that the car also stops charging,the brushes for the alternator are in the regulator and a new one usually fixes the problem.

All Dash Function Is Computer Controlled--It Can Be Scanned For Problem.

i have an 88 dodge shadow turbo with a five speed. the car will fall on its face at 5500rpm coming out of first gear. and its rpm range gets lover with each gear. the fuel pressure rises when it fall on its face. the car never dies just falls then picks back up and will fall again unless you keep it under the that rpm. then it is fine. what could be the problem?

run engine codes, had same issue once before it was bad computer good luck
