Question about 2004 Honda VTX 1800
F1 error code on 2003 VTX 1800C. The bike had irregular sputter. May happen after 5 miles or not again until 200 miles later. Also when sputter occurs, the gauge goes out like it is losing power- or this could be from the bike shutting off. Will immediately restart and continue to run. Have changed fuel, put in seafoam, removed power commander, tested battery and charging system- still intermittent sputter- almost spontaneous loss of power under any riding conditions- feels like water in the fuel maybe but isn't. help! @

It all seems to be leading to fuel starvation. Have you checked the tank breather is not blocked which can be a small hole in the petrol cap or a tube from under the tank. It could also be a blocked fuel filter. There should be two. One inside the fuel tank under the petcock, another before the fuel pump. Here is the workshop manual where you can find all info you will ever need for this bike.
Hop this has been useful, rate me if it has...?
Thanks and good luck.

first thing to do is to check fuel level. you mentioned about 290 miles since you owned it but no fillups. did you get gas from same store? not unusual to pickup trash or water in fuel from conv. stores. with that out of the way, look at your plugs and see what they look like. black and sooty would be fuel fouled and very white or very light tan would be lean. if plugs and fuel are eliminated, it could be the result of a stator coil starting to go south. these will require special tools to diagnose.

Testimonial: "Very quick to respond and helpful!"
SOURCE: my new battery keeps draining
did you check what the charging current it? look in the manual on how you can hook up a meter to measure the charging current thats actually going into the battery when its charging. if thats correct then, u might have a leak or something.
how dead is the battery?
