You didn't give a YEAR for your bike, so I can't narrow it down (things changed over the model years).

You can peruse the following link and see if you can find what you need:

SOURCE: the headlight flashes and the turn signal goes out

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

It would seem that some wires have crossed. You can verify connection by following the wiring diagram.

Good luck and thank you for using Fixya.

SOURCE: re wired 1971 650 triumph up dated electrial on

Did you use a Typanium Recitifier? There should be no problems unless it is a used one. All the new ones I havew used just "bolt on" .. there are 5 wires. Check to see if you don't have a grounded wire some where.. try it with the head light off.. I usually wire my bikes to start with no head light with a 3 way switch.. once running I can then turn the light on. Go through an check all your wires again, you might just have a bad connection somewhere.. here is an excellent site .. Jim http://www.raskcycle.com/techtip/webdoc16.html

Have you check the points? Behind the one engine cover is the Ign. points and condenser. The points need to be in good order, tips clean and sanded off. They should open and close as you turn the engine. (easy if plugs are out) You can use a old match book cover to "GAP" the points. When open as far as they will go (during the hi part of the point cam) you adjust the points to just drag over the cover, or you can use the proper tools like a feeler gage .019" should do it. Be sure the condenser is good, if it has been sitting for some time it will be a good idea to replace this part. Once the points are gaped, check the points when they are open for 12 volts. The moving part of the points should be "hot" with the key switch on, (you can check this with a 12 volt test light, the one end grounded to the engine block the tip touching the open part of the points) and the points open. Both sides of the coils should be hot as long as the points are open. Only one side of the coils should be hot with the points closed. Next, put a Philips drive screw driver in the plug wire (end) hold the metal blade end close to the block and turn the engine as fast as you can and see if you get a spark now.

Is the battery wired 'negative to ground'?

Most motorcycles are negative ground, but I know older Triumphs are positive ground wired. With positive ground motorcycles the earth wires are red and negative ground motorcycles are black.

My horn wont work on my triumph rocket 3

Firstly check the fuse has not blown. Simple I know, but it is amazing how many times this is overlooked. If okay try the following:
The horn should have 2 wires. One is live the other earth/ground. Check that the earth wire is grounded securely and most of all CLEANLY. Try the horn now. If it still doesn't work run a live from your battery and touch the live connection on the horn. If it still does not sound I would suspect the horn is broken and needs replacing.
If it does work then I would suspect either the horn button is faulty or there is a broken wire somewhere in the horn circuit.

Where is the electrical system chasis ground on a 2000 Triumph Sprint ST? It looks like the negative cable from the battery disappears into the wiring harness. I want to check the soundness of the ground...

Comes from the battery negative terminal to frame and repeats at points around frame, ie headstock for electrical fittings. Any proplems just fix a wire from battery neg and put to earth point anywhere you suspect is bad earth. if then works, problem solved.
