Root Problem:Your bike is running too rich from over fueling! Won't build torque or rpm.
Steps:

  1. Clean your air cleaner and spray it with light filter oil.
  2. Check your exhaust pipe make sure it's not plugged or restricted
  3. Gear ratio - too many teeth on primary sprocket?
  4. Install a new or clean spark plug for color testing. Want a cocoa brown.
  5. Jetting - Needle Valve - Raise the cir-clip a notch at a time lowering the needle into the pilot jet. Mostly effects the mid-range 35 - 60 mph.
  6. Jetting - Main Jet (should be OK) if it has been changed/increased to a larger orifice you may want to go back to stock. This usually effects speeds when the wire is tight and your running is WFO. Wound Flat Out.
Worse case scenario:If this bike has a lot of hours on it you may want to freshen up the top end. Re-ringing the piston and honing the cylinder head with a good cross hatch pattern works wonders to get power back. We used to do this every couple of races. If the cylinder is slightly oval shaped it needs a bore and next over piston and rings. (Most frequently a problem with 2 strokes)
Hope this helps and keep us in the loop.

My yamaha xt 125r is losing rpm and spark plug constantly sooted

Sounds like your bike is running to rich. Find and remove your air cleaner element, if it is clogged that is your problem. Easy way to tell is to get a torch and hold it behind your filter if you can't see the light or it is very subdued your filter needs to either be cleaned or replaced.
If it isn't your element then your carb might be fouled or your leads may be breaking down

Yamaha xt 125r wont start up

hello, check and see if plug is firing a blue color, if not you may need a stator-pickup coil, i have a 2000 warrior, it is firing, orange and white color, stator neede to be replaced, pickup coil was going out, also check ign coil, these have a problem with getting weak after a while. most likely it is your stator pickup coil, no blue fire from plug, no running the motor. my stator pickup coil was going out. no blue fire from plug, i was told by a yamaha mechanic, no blue fire from plug it will not run, has to be blue, not orange or white looking fire.make sure carb is clean and all jets inside are clean, and air passage ways
