Another (slight) possibility is there wasn't a perfect connection between the battery terminal and the post of the battery.
By removing and replacing the battery, maybe you removed a little "gunk" inbetween the connection, and retightened everything up good.
Finally, the "check engine" light for 3-4 seconds "might" just be a glitch.
The best check is to pull the error codes (DTCs) and see what (if) the computer stored any errors.
Usually a sign of something draining the battery. The machine test probably showed the battery could hold a charge and the alternator was charging the battery. You may need to have someone check for a power drain. When the key switch is off, there may be a weak short to ground or a relay or component that is using power.
Sounds like it overheated. White smoke can be oil but, with it not starting sounds like coolant and it overheated. Take it to a repair facility for confirmation.
Initially,is there a clicking sound? If yes, then check the starter relay. Temporarily jump the 2 big terminals. To locate the starter relay, follow the big cable from the battery's + terminal.
If there is no clicking sound, try starting with the clutch lever pulled and/or the sidestand folded up.
Hi ,
One thing you can try :
Change your spark plugs to a cooler type which will help the bike to run cooler and will eliminate the start dificulties when hot . You will notice that in winter time it will be harder to start but at that time you may swap back to the other plugs .
Try that to start with and let me know how you go .
