Oil pressure light at idle

I have a 2011 mazda tribute. 148,500 miles. Run standard 5w-20 oil. After the engine has run for a while (25mins plus) the oil pressure light begins to flicker when idling. When I accelerate the oil light goes off. So, it appears that when the oil warms up and thins out the pressure drops. When it is idling the pressure drops but when up to speed the pressure rises. I just had a fresh oil change one week ago, so it shouldn't be bad oil or a bad filter. What are some troubleshooting possibilities in order of liklihood?

    Sorry, it's a 2001 not a 2011.

When the light comes on at idle do you notice any engine noise different from the norm.if not then the oil pressure sensor(ops) is bad/weak and will need to be changed.if you hear abnormal noise with the light on then you will have to have teh oil pressure checked to see if its within specs.

I own a 2003 mazda tribute. The oil light stays on but the car does not need oil

Usually the oil warning light means the engine oil pressure is low, or the sending unit has failed.

SAE 5W-20 WHAT IS THIS OIL FOR WHAT HAPPENDS IF ITS EMPTY?

It sounds like you are looking at what is on the engine oil fill cap. If that's so, running it empty will absolutely cause major damage to your engine. Locate the dip stick and check the oil level in the engine and add SAE 5w-20 Oil as needed.CAUTION--- Be careful not to overfill.

I have a 2006 Mazda Tribute. Can you tell me what the recommended time is between lube and oil changes. Is it 3000 miles or 5000. Thanks

It used to be every 3 months or 3,000 miles but some manufacturers are suggesting that 5,000 miles is ok. My view is that it does not hurt the motor having more oil changes. I continue to have them done every 3,000 miles myself even if my oil life indicator has not come on. Clean oil is very important to have a engine last for many miles. There are some full synthetic oils that can go for 5,000 or 7,000 miles beteween oil changes but cost alot more than the standard oil.
