SOURCE: oil change on 05 road king

I typed out a Real Long dissertation of how to do this step by step, and all of my tricks. Forgot what the primary oil amount is to refill, don't have access to my manuals. (Gloomy day for an old biker)

Went to find this info, and there's an old Harley mechanic, (Kinda' looks like me!), that has a step by step Video of how to do an oil change on a Road King!

Here it is,

SOURCE: what are the pros and cons of synthetic oil in

Using synthetic is all "pros" in my opinion. I've done a lot of research on line and talking to motorcycle mechanics, local riders, local landscapers who all use synthetics. There is a ton of scientific data and wear comparison data out their- so much that, for me, it's a no brainer to use synthetic. After hours of research I decided to use nothing but Amsoil. Make sure you specify the Motor Cycle oil as it is specifically formulated for bikes. You can usually find it locally. Harley has theirs made for them by one of the major oil refineries- they just put their name on it and mark it up tremendously. Amsoil's specs are the best I've found. I have a 2007 Dyna Super Glide with Vance Hines pipes and a 96 Harley Low Rider with a Crane cam, tricked out chrome and 2 piece 3 spoke "saber" wheels- a real beauty!

Hope this helps and good ridin'!

SOURCE: oil weight for primary and transmission on 2003 Road King

You could get away with it for awhile, but I would only use oil formulated for the primary chain case, and for that part of the machine, I stick with Harley brand, dont forget , u got clutch plates in there u dont want slipping. For the tranny you wanna use a good grade gear oil (75W-90, 75W-110,75W-140, SAE 190 & SAE 250) .... it'll better handle the torque requirements. I use Redline Gear Oil and shifting has improved noticeably

SOURCE: where is the oil dipstick on an 03 road king

The oil dipstick is located on the right side of bike almost directly under the football cover for the air cleaner. It's a round knob that pulls directly out (Kind of wiggle as you pull on it). Just check like a regular car dipstick pull, wipe and reinsert and then look at dipstick.

2002 Road King FLHR CI, Is Lucas Full Synthetic 20W-50 Recommended for ALL compartments?

You should only run HD Primary Chain Oil in that primary case and nothing else.
Synthetics are never good in harleys since they are ball bearing motors and Synthetics tend to be to slippery making the bearings skate instead of roll.

Just bought a 2002 Road King and unsure what type of oil is being used...after 2000 miles it needs a little oil added and I am not sure what to use...(reg or synthetic) and if there will be any issues if...

Your bike came from the factory with H-D Syn3 20W50 synthetic engine oil in it. Todays petroleum based and synthetic engine oils are compatible with each other so there are no issues there. Check the oil level with your bike on the side stand. There should be two lines on the dipstick. The upper line is the "FULL HOT" line and the lower line is the "FULL COLD" line. As long as the oil level is between the two lines, do not add oil. Resist the temptation to "top off the oil tank". Do not overfill the oil tank.

What kind of transmission oil should I use for a FXSTD 2000

Your bike came with H-D Syn3 20W50 synthetic engine oil in the engine, primary case, and transmission. There are many other brands of oil that can be used however. Go to their websites and check for their recommendations. Personally, I like the H-D semi-synthetic primary and transmission lube made for the earlier bikes. I think the transmission runs quieter with it in there.

Remove the derby cover from the primary cover. Pour one quart of H-D 20W50 Syn3 engine oil in the primary. It should fill the primary to the bottom of the clutch hub. Do not overfill.

What type of oil and how much for oil change on my 04 flhrs 1450cc

Your bike came from the factory with H-D Syn3 synthetic 20W50 engine oil in the engine, primary, and the transmission. You bike takes three quarts in the oil tank. Always check your oil level with the dip stick when you change the oil. There are two marks on the stick. The top mark is "FULL HOT" and the lower mark is "FULL COLD". Keep the oil level between the two marks. Now, there are several manufacturers that make good oils for your bike. Mobil V-Twin, Amsoil, Royal Purple, Revtech and Motor Factory. All are good but check their websites for the recommended product.

How often should i change tranny fluid, 3000 mi, 5000 mi, ?? I'm running Harley oil now do U recommend synthetic oils.

If you're running Harley oil, you're running either semi-synthetic or full synthetic. You bike came with H-D Syn3 20W50 fully synthetic oil in the transmission. They use the Syn3 in the engine, transmission, and primary now. You can use whatever you like. Amsoil, Royal Purple, and Mobil make oils that are suitable for this use but you'll have to check their website to determine which one they recommend.

Your bike came filled with H-D Syn3 20W50 synthetic oil in the engine, primary case, and the transmission. To avoid getting into the "what's the best oil" argument, I'm going to recommend sticking with that. There are lots of oils that are good. Go to the Amsoil and Mobil oil websites.
