Can a bad voltage regulator cause the main 30 amp fuse to blow?

I have blown 5 30 amp fuses trying to figure out whats happening. as soon as I turn the key on the main fuse is blowing. I washed the bike and it started fine I rode about 50 yard and it shut down. I found the 30 amp fuse was blown replaced it and it started. I hit the throttle a couple times and it blew again. now it is blowing as soon as I turn the key on. any ideas?

Usually a bad regulator will only cause problems with charging...
Sounds like you've got a short somewhere in the wiring...I'd start by checking the ignition switch wiring and the connections going into the fuse box.

SOURCE: bad regulator?

Fuse 2 is actually the fuse from the regulator to the battery (see schematic below) - so if it's blown then you are not charging the battery. Put the correct fuse in - if it blows again, you may have a shorted regulator. Unplug both connections to the regulator: With your test meter set to 'ohms' check in turn between each of the three yellow wires in the 3-pin connector to both the red & blacks in the 4 pin connector (the two reds are already connected to each other, as are the two blacks). Also check between the reds & the blacks. None of these should readings be 'short' (zero ohms). Inspect the wiring at the three-pin connector - if the bike's harness looks charred/burned that is a sign the regulator has shorted. There is possibility it could have taken the stator with it. Incidentally, the cable that plugs into the three pin connector - that should be a replacement auxiliarry harness: the original was deemed too small gauge for the job & was replaced with the auxiliary one as a recall. You should find that cable is stand-alone from the main bike harness and you can follow it back to the stator output connection. At both ends you should find the connectors of the original harness that is 'laced' into the complete harness. If you do not find that auxiliary harness, you need to get it. You should be able to get it at no charge from Triumph if the records on your VIN show it was never supplied.

SOURCE: blows ignition fuse when key is turned on

Look for a grounded wire on the ignition switch or a break in the wiring leading to the fuse. Wiring system on motorcycles are a close system with only the battery being grounded to the frame. Any loose connections or breaks in the wires that will allow the current to jump to the frame with cause you tons of fun.

2003 kodiak 400 2x4, as soon as the ignition key is turned on the 30 amp fuse by the blows.

You have a dead short . Disconnect the battery , set your volt meter to read ohms and send a current from each position on the ignition switch to the fuse block where the fuse is blowing . You should be able to trace the problem quite quickly .

What happens when you hook a care battery up backwards?

Hello Glen, Bad bad things can happen when you hook up a car battery backwards. If your car has a high quality electrical system it might only blow out one or two main fuses. If not, it can cause havoc on the wiring system and burn out the alternator, computer, sensors, modules, and stereo system to name a few.

Tried starting my 97' vz800 it was cold say 38 it turned over a few times I heard a click and then everything went out no power what so ever. I looked at every fuse including the 30 amp main fuse and...

A faulty starter could drain the battery but not completely.Sounds much more like a bad earth connection try attaching a jump lead or heavy cable between the negative battery terminal and the engine and try it again.

I have changed 5 alternator in one day which where no good...I checked my 175 mega fuse it is ok i check the 30 amp fuse which had a 10amp fuse changed it to a 30 amp fuse but made it worse.. also check...

Five bad alternators in a row borders on the incredulous. 2, 3 maybe, but 5 is a Guinness world record! I have to ask the 30 amp fuse made what worse? Is it not charging? Have you tested the battery? Maybe it has a dead cell, won't take a charge. Recheck battery connections and grounds. Test the battery or try a different good battery. What testing tools are you using?

Crest audio ca4 blowing fuse

There is two possibillities to fuse blown off due to hi current flowing through fuse more than 3amp.because power supply componant like rectifying diode, filter capacitor or regulator ic ,regulator transistor shall be short circuited.
if you are tech......just remove amp. supply.from main power supply...try with another fuse........if fuse ok, fault is amp side, or if fuse blow off ...power side problem just....maximum fault comming on varistor ,diode, filter capacitor, .........
if you are not tech......... give to local authorised tech.......

WHAT WOULD CAUSE THE MAIN FUSE TO BLOW - 120 AMP BATTERY ALSO IT MADE A FUNNY "RUMM" SOUD AND THE LIGHTS GOT VERY BRIGHT FOR A SECOND, HAPPENED 5 TIMES ABOUT 40 SECONDS APART.

It sounds like the chargeing systems voltage regulator is allowing to much voltage to get by it.I would test the voltage across the battery with the engine running, and watch the voltage as you rev-up the engine a little. It should stay below 14 volts.

No Power

all sets must have rated fuse for protection. some units now use what is called a PICO-FUSE.this type of fuse is soldered into the pc board. usually marked with location i.d. F301,F901,F400. etc. these fuses look like resistors or in-line coils. check continuity w/ohm meter. if new fuse blows as soon as you plug in tv, suspect bridge diode ciruit or main filter cap(large ripple filter by main fuse. if new fuse blows when you try to turn on, suspect 130v regulator or high voltage short(horizontal-output, flyback transformer) good luck!

Help my fuse is blow!

If the amp blows fuses only AFTER you send remote turn-on voltage to the amp, the amp probably has blown output transistors. To eliminate other possible causes, read through the following page.
