Intermitant engine rattle

Needing new valves is highly unlikely. Your bike is only 5 years old.
Before doing anything else, run through a tank of premium gas. If the rattle goes away then a bit of pre-ignition was present. If the rattle is still there, take the bike to a dealer and ask them to reset the cam chain tensioner and set the valve clearances also. This may cost $150 or so. Chances are that if the knocking is still present, you are hearing piston slap. This would require new pistons, rings and probably fresh cylinder bores. Have the shop re-seat the valves while the top end is torn down. Ask the dealer as to cost before handing over the bike.

SOURCE: how to replace top front fork seals on a 99 honda
If you have never taken your bike front-end off for any type of maintenance, you better get a friend who can show you step by step process, as it requires mtre just taking the fork off the bike once you get into the for to replace the seals and putting the fork oil into it.
