I was hoping someone could help me with my speedometer. I have a 99' 748 and I recently removed the front tire for maintenance. The bottom part of the speedometer that the axle goes into came of when I removed the tire. So naturally I just pushed the part back into the speedo cable. However
The speedometer isn't working now. When i removed the tire i noticed the tabs in the rim but all i did was put the round speedo part in.Either you didn't get the notches set correctly or the 'rod' inside the cable isn't seated right. Or the rod broke like mine just did, and will need replacement.,,,
Ensure that you haven't recently changed to larger tires, changed your transmission or gotten involved in a rear-end crash, as these factors can all contribute to speedometer problems.
Check the gear at the transmission end of your speedometer cable to see if there's any damage caused. Purchase a new gear and change it if the part looks damaged.
Compare the speed of your car to the speed of other cars on the road while driving to see how far off your speedometer is. Take the car to a speedometer shop or someone who knows how to fix speedometer magnets to recharge the magnet.
