Ferracci flywheel install and timing

The coil is behind the flywheel. You need to use a flywheel puller to get flywheel off. The flywheel has a key way groove and key in it that must be lined up (and key put in) when putting back together. Do not tighten nut down over tight when putting back together or flywheel can crack.

I believe your problem is not the coil/magneto but rather your timing. If you hit something hard with the blade you most probably sheared the timing key. This key is what keeps your flywheel in the proper timing position.
Remove cover top of engine, remove flywheel bolt,remove flywheel, remove key. If key is sheared off or even dented replace.Put back together. Happy mowering.

You sheared the timing key. Remove top cover to engine, Remove flywheel bolt, Remove flywheel, Timing key is between flywheel and crankshaft. If timing key sheared or damaged in any way REPLACE. Put back together. Good luck.

find the mark on the flywheel. it will be 3 marks close together ,( it will NOT be the ignition timing mark) line the middle mark to the pointer on the flywheel. cover. (top of engine, to the rear) now one cam pulley mark will be at 12 o clock, and the other at 6 o clock, it doesnt matter which. once the belt is on and the marks lined up, then tension the belts. once they are on, you can put the front crank pulley on and it should run. the cam pulleys may want tp turn one way or the other when lining up the marks, but they must end up, tensioned, with the marks lined up.

If the flywheel key keeps shearing off, you may be putting it together wrong. I put the flywheel on first and then insert the flywheel key. The surface between the crankshaft and flywheel may be too polished from years of use. I put a little bit of valve grinding compound on the crankshaft where the flywheel is going to sit and then I use an air wrench to tighten the flywheel nut. HTH

Did you forget the crankshaft seal or install the wrong part behind the flywheel? It should be replaceable when the flywheel is pulled. I'm not sure what that has to do with blue smoke coming out of the exhaust. Did you over-oil the rings when you put it together? The smoke may clear itself after running a while. Other than fouling the plug and alerting the EPA, it won't hurt it to smoke a little while. Did you check to see that the oil level in the crankcase was correct?

Replace the dial pins in the back of the engine block. This aligns the transmission to the engine. It has fixed a lot of them. Sometimes they will come out when the two are separated and the mechanics put them back together without them. This will result in a cracked flywheel.

Installing new crank bearings is not a simple task. you will need a 3/8" impact driver, flywheel puller, case splitter and torque wrench. The top end comes off then the side cases, flywheel, flywheel electrics, clutch, shifter shaft, Crank drive gear and output shaft sprocket.

Split the case leaving the gears on the shafts and the shift drum and forks in place but out of the gearbox. Remove the crank and then remove the bearings from the crank or from the center casings depending on where they decide to stay when the case splits. Remove the crank seals from each center case half. Install new seals then install new bearings into the center casings.

Now just put everything back together.
By the way, now would be a good time to stick in a new output shaft (sprocket) bearing and seal. Be sure the OHC is timed correctly when installing the cam chain. Bad timing = bent valves.

I am wondering where to line up the coils on the flywheel when the engine is at TDC on the horizontal cylinder. I called ferracci and they said if I sent MY MOTOR to them they could help me. Otherwise they couldn't tell me. My question is what to I line my coil pickups to on the flywheel where are the magnetic pickup on the flywheel and the coil pickups lining up? Thanks!It sounds as if you have not installed the flywheel yet. I installed a lightweight Nichols Flywheel on a 2000 Monster 750 earlier this year. I have sense sold that bike and gave the paperwork instruction away with it. From the picture you have supplied they look exactly the same from what I remember. Again, this is working off memory. There is only one possible way for the flywheel itself to fit into the bike. There is an alignment peg (for a lack of a better name) that aligns the flywheel with the electrode. The instructions are clear about not moving or changing the electrode spacing, location or existing relationship. Long story short, it was pretty much plug and play and I did not have to do anything with TDC. I understand it is a different brand, and it might be different, but...... By the way, I loved the flywheel upgrade.,,,
