How do i tune the carby on a peewee 50? the bike wont run properly

The bike starts but wont idle. i was wondering if there was a standard tuning for carby air fuel mixture?

Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ).

Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carb to fill with gas. Install a new stock NGK spark plug and try to start the engine. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the two screws on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well.

Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. Install a new stock NGK spark plug and try to start the engine. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Don't be chincy with the spray. You probably have a varnish buildup that is stubborn to remove. Remove the two screws on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well.

Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Be sure the bolts are tight. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. Set the idle speed with the idle screw. This process should get you back on the road.

Run the motorbikes engine to a normal running temperatue and thn set the air-fuel mixture by ...tightening all the way in taking care not to over tighten it as you may damage the tip of the screw,usually its thn 2 and half turns outwards or 3 , you will notice the change inthe idling of the bike's engine.
Its better to check the spark plug gap and also check the air filter, blow it with compressed air or if its tht dirty best would be to replace it.

Wanted to know where to set idle screw on pewe 80 carby


Hi, Danny you need to make sure you have no intake leaks by spraying some Brake Kleen, Contact Cleaner, Starting Fluid etc. around the intake manifold and seals, if the RPM's go up or down significantly then you have a leak that needs to be fixed before you can continue with the carburetor adjustment.
The engine should be at operating temperature with the enrichener off to set the idle between 950-1050 rpm. Turn the idle skrew clockwise to increase the idle speed and counterclockwise to decrease the idle speed. If you have access to your air fuel mixture skrew you may turn it as well, if not there is a video below on how to gain access, make sure you start with clean or new spark plugs. Gently turn the air fuel mixture skrew clockwise until it starts to bottom out "STOP" do not over tighten as it will damage the taper on the end, now back the skrew out 1-1/2 full turns to establish a starting point start the engine and check the idle rpm's and turn the idle skrew accordingly for 950-1050 rpm if necessary, turn the air fuel mixture skrew 1/4 turn at a time and let the engine settle for about 10 seconds, turn the skrew clockwise for a leaner mixture and counterclockwise for a richer mixture, you are seeking the highest rpm your air fuel mixture skrew can acquire without going past 3 full turns from bottom then resetting the idle skrew back down to 950-1050 rpm If you can not detect any rpm change and can not stall the engine by turning the air-fuel mixture skrew all the way in then your pilot/low-speed jet is too big and needs to be replaced with the next size smaller. Final adjustment should be made with a clean air filter mounted to the carburetor.

How to adjust idle 2005 Honda 150 dirt bike

Hi, Whiskers_57 it should be noted that the "AIR FUEL" mixture screw adjustment "ONLY" manages your idle and has no effect on any other circuit also any intake leaks must be repaired before the A/F adjustment procedure can be performed otherwise you will never obtain a proper idle and you will waste a lot of time chasing the impossible. The A/F mixture screw's purpose is to fine tune the fuel charge entering the combustion chamber. The following applies to both 2 and 4 stroke engines:
1. The mixture screw may be sealed at the factory with a Welch Plug please review the following video for removal.

2. The mixture screw manages a range of 3 complete 360-degree counterclockwise turns from the bottom/closed position.

What is the correct idle adjustment on a yamaha rt 100 dirtbike


Hi, Anonymous the carburetor throttle shaft wheel has two cables the cable closest to the right side of the bike is the throttle cable and the one closest to the left side is the idle cable. Right about the middle between the two is the idle adjustment bolt it faces out towards the air filter end of the carb. The engine should be at operating temperature with the enrichener off to set the idle between 950-1050 rpm. Turn the idle adjustment bolt clockwise to increases idle speed and counterclockwise to decrease idle speed. If you have access to your air fuel mixture bolt you may adjust it as well if not there is a video below on how to gain access, make sure you start with clean or new spark plugs. Bike wont kick start or idle , it will coast


first drain the carby, then set your air mixture screw 2 turns out, from the fully turned in position. The starting proceedure is as follows, when the engine is COLD, turn on fuel, pull on the choke fully, and kick the engine over. DO NOT use any throttle, when the engine is cold, and the choke is on. Remember Choke on, NO throttle.
When warm, no choke, and a little throttle when kicking.

1984 1100 maxim fuel problem


Hi Stuart,
Carbies will always look clean inside the plunger assembly. fuel does not make it up into there in normal operation. They exists for vacuum operation of the constant velocity plungers to go up and down adjusting the mixture automatically for the engine with different throttle applied. If the bike runs with you spraying carb cleaner into the intake... then thats good... at least it runs for you :)
You need to check that you have the fuel petcock turned to prime initially to be sure that there is gas filling the carbies. Vacuum operated fuel petcocks can become nogo from sitting for extended periods. The bike uses a BS34 Mikuni carb. Parts are pretty good to find for them. They often have a drain screw on the bottom of the float bowl. You can check here to see if fuel is filling the carbies by backing this off a couple of turns, fuel should drain.
Most likely you will need to remove, strip and clean out the carbies thoroughly. They will have varnish from old fuel clogging jets and passageways in the carbs. Only way to do this is remove them and completely disassemble and clean them to be sure that they are good to go. Having a new gasket kit there to do this is often worthwhile. There is also a rubber O ring under the air/fuel idle mixture screw that perishes and will stop the bike from idling correctly.
You can have a read/download of an excellent guide written for the XS650 that uses the same carbies here. It will at least help you to learn what you are dealing with.
Have fun... well it aint much fun rebuilding carbs, but will be worth it to get the bike going again. Cheers
