Yamaha R1 won't start after I adjusted the valves.

I adjusted the valves on my 2006 R1. I had to shim all the exhaust valves and 10 of the 12 intake valves. Both of the cams where installed in the correct position and the crank marker was right on TDC. After I shimmed the valves I measured like your supposed to and they were dead on. I really don't want to have to pull this thing back apart. The only other thing I did was change the spark plugs. Help please.

The proper adjustment is achieved when the notch in the actuator lines up with the pin hole in the cylinder casting.

SOURCE: Yamaha VStar 1100. Valve train noise after starter clutch repair.

The cam chain has stretched a bit making it look like its half a tooth out, the tensioner takes up the slack but makes the cam timing slightly out.
You could have timed the crank 280 degrees out
It should be timed on the T mark for one cylinder & on the I mark (if there is one) for the other.
The marks before the T mark are for ignition timing (firing marks)

Good Luck
Hope this helps.

SOURCE: how to change spark plugs on yamaha r1 04

hi although it is a bit tight for space the least parts removed the better, with the middle fiarings removed you should see the top of the cylinder heads, remove each cap 1 at a time and replace the plugs using the spannner in the bikes tool kit, if this way proves to difficult you will have to prop up the fuel tank, remove airbox and get at the plugs this way, paul

IV GOT A 2007 R1 SHOWING AN ERROR CODE 17 ANY IDEA

The error code 17 means you have a malfunctioning EXUP exhaust valve, or EXUP servo motor. It could be that your servo motor has fried, could be that some wires got loose, or it could be that your exhaust valve just needs a good cleaning and lubricating, if it's had a hard life.
