The way you explain this, the fuel and air mix is wrong, is the spark plug wet, if it is check the carb air mix screw. remove the mix screw and use a can of air and blow it out. before doing this remove the air filter and the spark plug then spray some wd (brand name) in hole and do again with the air can. then screw back in. leave the air filter off. and put spark plug back in and start the engine you will need to adjust the screw until you can get it to start. when it does give it a few good revs and keep it running for a bit. replace the filter and start engine and you will need to adjust the air screw till the engine sounds right again.

ALWAYS have a fire extinguisher on hand when working on carburetors. Drain the carburetor. There should be a plug on the bottom of the carb float bowl. Remove the plug then replace it after the fuel drains. Remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the air screw on the outside throat of the
carb and spray into the screw hole as well. Be sure to put the air screw back in. IMPORTANT > do not tighten this adjuster down. Only screw it in until it LIGHTLY seats. Now turn the air screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine.

1997 rm 125 won't start why should I do?

For your dirt bike to run you need 3 things:

1. Fuel (gas/air)
2. Compression
3. Spark

Start trouble shooting through these. Make sure your gas is turned on, and that it flows through the carb; if you tilt the bike does fuel run through the overflow tube in the carb? Make sure you have good spark; take out the spark plug from the cylinder, still connected to the ignition wire touch the threaded end to somewhere metal on the engine and turn the bike over. You should see a spark. Finally, do you have good compression, how hard is it to kick over etc.

These are the first things to trouble shoot, I would look on youtube if you don't know what you're doing, there are plenty of helpful videos there. You can also try putting a thimble full of fuel into the cylinder and then kick it over to help it start if it has been sitting a while.

Rm 250 wont start off kick

Don't know if it is water cooled or not, but it sounds like you may have a problem with oil or water getting into the combustion chamber and fouling the spark plugs. Kicking doesn't produce the amount of rpm that you need to fire up a weakly firing plug. I'd check the plugs condition first and replace if needed, and then figure out why its smoking.

I'm having trouble starting my 1985 rm 250 and I

It means that unburned fuel collected in the exhaust pipe then ignited when the spark plug fired due to the rotation of the crankshaft. It also means the spark plug is firing and the cylinder is getting gas... too much gas. The engine is flooding out due to much choking of the carb during kick starting.

My 2003 Suzuki rm 125 kick starts with brand new spark plug then eventually bogs down and dies, does the same when push started, does it need new piston and rings?

HI,,sounds like your plug is fouling,,what pre-mix ratio are you running? and has the carb been played with? run 32-1 premix and remove and clean the carb.

piston and rings are not to blame for this behaviour.
