I have 1981 Suzuki GSX 1100 (rectangular front light and dashboard with check control).

CDI is not working properly. Engine reaches 4.500 rpm, only. I need to replace it, but I cannot find this part in the market.

Can anyone help me to find the right CDI for my bike?

You can't, just went through this. You'll need to find the correct CDI for your bike, some years will switch back an forth but rarely and Suzuki has never printed, that I've seen, a wiring diagram for the CDI. The 94 might work if you can find it and it should plug right in, the 98 will have a different curve that most likely wont.

No Spark, No Power coming from CDI to coil

Check the wiring on the connector plugs make sure all the wires are the same color on both sides, red to red blue to blue and so on. I had the same problem After replacing a stator and just plugging it in,after two weeks a new cdi and coil i noticed there were two wires transposed.

I have a 82 yamaha maxim 750 thats not getting fire to the plugs an woundering if u can tell me a little to get me startyed...

Heres how it works.

There is a 1.stator and 2.rotor and 3.signal generator, located on the cranckshaft.
1.Stator produces A/C current
2. Rotor has magnets in it and goes around the stator and is part of the A/C current process.
Rotor also has a raised spot on the out side of it which the signal generator identifies.
3.Signal generator is a wire positioned just above the rotor to read the raised spot on
the rotor every time the rotor spins around. This wire tells the cdi to fire.

The CDI which receives the signal from the signal generator wire. Sends the signal to a coil.

The coil is energized and fires.

Always check the components in reverse order, because the stator, rotor and signal generator rarely fail.

1st, if your getting power to the coil and the coil doesn't fire , then its the coil .
2nd if your not getting power to the coil, then its probably the cdi.
3rd. Check that all the wires are making a good contact before you change your cdi, because
cdi is usually exspensive.
4th before you purchase the cdi, make sure the stator and rotor and signal generator are working.

This will get you started.

Hi there I'm stuck I don't know how to check the

Sorry but they either work or they dont.
If yours isn't working, replace it.
But before you replce it consider checking the other components, because ign mods are exspensive.
it sounds like you've been already checking the other stuff. heres what i'd check if your bike came to my shop.
1. battery fully charged, and can take a load. (weak batteries = weak ign power)
i have a bike that won't fire at all with weak battery. Make sure battery is good.
2. check for spark at plugs, make sure plugs are good. Pull plugs and turn motor over.
rest plug next to head and turn over, do not touch the plug while turning over
or you can be shocked.look for spark.
if you have spark , then you ign mod is working.
if no spark, then check #3
3. power to coils. check the power going into coils,
if power but no spark, then coil is bad.
if no power. check #4
4. power to coils comes from a ignition system ( points/ cdi /ign. module)
there is a stator and a rotor. and a signal generator. on your motor
the signal generator wire sends a signal to the cdi, every time the rotor rotates.
the ignition system (ign.mod) sends power to coil.
so if no signal to the cdi, then signal generator is bad
if signal going into cdi but not sending the power to the coils then the cdi/ ign. mod is bad.

Hope that helps

This is a 1984 1200 that will not start and back fires thru the exhaust and carbs

hello
Back fire is an indication that the bike is firing incorrectly.
Your timing chain is probably stretched, due to the year.
inproper valve timing due to stretched timing chain will make the bike backfire.

I have other thoughts like stuck valves or inproper sparkplug wires on wrong plug,
i always start with easier and less expensive method.
1st check your sparkplug wires to make sure they are on the right plug.
2nd pull sparkplugs and do compression and leakdown test.
3rd pull componets to see if valves are opening and closing, (valve clearance check)
4th if valves are good, then timing chain is probably stretched.
5th if timing chain and timing marks are good, and valves are good, then proceed to
testing the signal generator to make sure your getting a signal to the cdi,
6th if you have a signal to cdi, the cdi tells which coil to fire. either # 1&4 or # 2&3.
if signal generator is working, but coils aren't firing right then its the cdi.
obviously your coils work because its firing, just back firing.

Thats all it could be from easiest to hardest.
Good luck and have a great weekend.

How to test CDI unit for KTM65 2009 to diagnose if faulty or not.

If you are able to use a digital volt meter and work your backwards from spark plug wire to coil to cdi to stator you can figure out where voltage stops.thats a fairly newer bike unless you really submerged that bike under water i dont think its the cdi box.it could be coil wire it could be coil.you want to check or change the cheaper parts before you go right to cdi because there not cheap.I have a yamaha banshee 350 and she was breaking up real bad.I thought because it was only happining on top end that the cdi was breaking down or stator was going bad.Found out with meter it was the coil wires and spark plug boots. These items have to have a certain amount of resistance or the do not conduct correctly. And spark plug wires and boots are not that exspensive. So thats why I say start from sparkplug boot and work your way back.Try that and Good Luck.

Hi. I have a stock 1998 kdx 200 that needed a blackbox. I bought a replacement cdi but the wiring on the bike is different to the 98 cdi unit. Colors are different too. The wiring on the bike is a kdx as...

Try following the wire from the stop button on the handle bar back to the CDI box. Simply unplug that wire. CDI is disabled by grounding. Does the KDX have a key switch or just the stop button. Try just connecting the pick up wire to the CDI and CDI to coil. You have to isolate ground to CDI to run. Check air gap at pick up. Use a matchbook for a gauge.(.018)

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Possible suspects:
  • IC Ignitor (CDI) (most likely);
  • connectors (likely)
  • pulser coil (least likely).

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

the function of your bikes's battery is signal light's and horn only i guess you already aware of it, other than that your electricity comes from your coil, the coil supply all from CDI to headlight taillight and park light, the CDI supply electricity from Spark, i suggest you check your CDI first and then Primary coil one of them is in bad condition, hope this help
