Sort of sounds like a Twilight Zone kind of problem doesn't it. I would have the battery checked for an internal dead short. This is something that happens on odd occasions and can happen even to a new battery. Yea, the little lights will work ( they do not draw much juice ), but the starter motor draws a lot of juice and a shorted battery just ain't got it. Also check the wiring harness connections. One loose connection can cause bunches of trouble.
SOURCE: bike stays in gear with clutch in
You are saying that with the clutch lever pulled in the bike still wants to go forward. Generally that is caused by dirty, gritty oil in the gearbox. Go ahead and change the oil. 10w40 motor oil is what you want. I think that will fix the problem assuming the clutch plates were installed properly. The first plate installed and the last plate installed should be a fiber friction plate, 8 plates total. A metal pressure plate goes between each fiber plate, 7 plates total.
Be sure the lever assembly arm is installed so that it gets full movement of the clutch cable. If the full range of movement is not present then full disengagement of the clutch is not going to happen.
cape cod bob did you a good service in the manual referral. Be sure to say thanks.
SOURCE: 2001 yamaha yzfr1 shifting problems
You have a bent shift fork.
You will need an impact driver, flywheel puller, case splitter and torque wrench plus the normal screwdriver, pliers, etc.. Alternate to the special tools is taking it to the dealer and say "Fix it". I often tell people to take it to the shop just so they don't get into such an involved project.
The motor comes out of the bike then turned upside down for removal of the bottom case. The clutch, shift shaft, flywheel, electrics, gears and gear shafts gotta come out so you can get to the bad fork. There's much more but the idea is that you are better off having the shop do the repair unless you have experience, are extremely mechanically inclined, and have the tools. The bad news is that a shop is going to charge around $1500 for the repair. Some shop mechanics also repair bikes at home. If you find one, you can save $200 to $400 or so.
A “very helpful” rating for this answer? Thanks!
SOURCE: 1986 Yamaha Venture Royal 1300 will only start in neutral now.
There is a tiny switch at the clutch lever housing assembly, the wires that are on tht switch may hve been distrubed unknowingly whilst you were refitting the cable.
Not bad too if you can check the switch which has a tiny protusion towards the clutch lever, it may probabley need a little adjusting or cleaning, spray some WD40 to it.
To access it from the lever side , it would be best to remove the clutch lever.
Hope this helps!
