My 540 was in the car park at my house when a flood came threw. About half a foot of water was in the floor pans. the alarm went of til the battery died now it wont start. i left it for about 3 days and everything else works, but it just makes a ticking noise when i try turn it over. I think its the emobelizer.. not sure but.. Just funny that everything else works but wont start.. it started on the night cause i parked it out of the flood waters..
If it just clicks then i would suspect the battery is dead. Try to jump the battery.

Start in the rear; test the battery first; then if all is well turn the key to the '0' key position and test all compotents that should work if all is good there, turn to try to start, if not nothing clicks or turns over then remove the starter and bench test it or take it to Auto Zone...if you have time, check the oil stick for water..Just go ahead and change the oils after you remove the spark plugs...never crank a engine that may have sucked water thru the air filter!!!

Sounds like the old nikasil problem.Remove all of the spark plugs and squirt oil down each bore,replace plugs and she should fire up.

you have to take off the plastic all around the gear shifter. You can wedge a screw driver carefully around the edges and pry the plastic off then there is a screw on the shifter take that off and slide the top off and then take off the rubber until the whole shifter is exposed then you will see in the cavity on the right side a little metal round tab on a spring that you have to push in with a screw driver and it will release the shifter. It sound dumb, but check if both battery posts are OK. Pull on both of them one after the other to make sure they wont budge at all. Cause i had this problem once where the negative post had broken, but inside the battery where the post and the plates that make up the battery's cells become one. But since the post was still sitting in the battery, it touched just enough to give the car juice to start and all, but when i hit a big enough bump, the post jumped up so the car had no more ground, and with no ground to work with, the spark plugs can't make any fire so the engine dies apparently for no reason. So even if it sound weird or dumb, check that out first cause it would be the thing that makes you search the longest. If everything regarding the battery is fine, then i'm guessing a problem with a body ground or grounding strap somewhere. Might either be the grounds regarding the engine that give it the possibility to fire and such, or might be the grounds and/or fuses and connectors that make the car's onboard computer work.
