My mp3 has developed a intermittent fault with regards to starting. It's happened 3 times in the last month. When I turn the key all lights on dash come on but when I press the starter button it doesn't do anything. It's just dead. I'll leave it for 5 mins or so and try again then its absolutely fine. Starts no problem. Anyone else know of this problem?? It's at a piaggio dealer at the moment and of course it's starting fine for them (sods law) intermittent faults are always the worse to find but if someone can point me in the right direction that would be great
I have a 2007 Piaggio MP3 went to start it one night lights went on no starter lights went out replace the battery yesterday lights are working starter doesn't work and there's gas coming out of the airbox anybody else have a problem like this is there an onboard computer
I think it's a manufacturing problem and Piaggio should fix it because I'm having the same problem as well

The water getting in is corroding the electrical contact from the speed sensor's wire, situated on the transmission. This can occur at both ends: either at the sensor or at the indicator.
You will have to find out which by looking at the sensor connector: If it's corroded then clean it thoroughly, crimp it a little more then insert it firmly and insulate it further with some hot glue. If the connector there is in good working order then follow the wiring up to the instrument panel; - check for wires with broken insulation and repair that. Finally if all the wires are correct then the fault is at the indicator: take it out, clean it and insulate both the connector and the instrument panel itself - the water might seep in and short the electronics board.
