Shifting between neutral and first gear and back to neutral means nothing other than the slider gear dogs are lined up with first gear.

I would pull the clutch cover and see what is going on. It could be that the actuator mechanism is being held up by dirt or bad linkage. Check and see.

Did you do an oil change recently? Sometimes a motor cycles clutch shares the oil with the engine and a different kind of oil then the bike requires will cause the clutch to slip. This happens alot especially if someone switches to some types of synthetic oil when the bike had regular oil before the oil change.

Loosen the slave cylinder from the motor, then bleed it. Then put it back on. The slave cylinder will be a little stiff to reinstall after bleeding, but the clutch should work better when your done.

The cam chain tensioner is self adjusting. If the tensioner is worn out, the tensioners are best replaced by a motorcycle shop unless you have the skill, tools, and a manual.
