1993 chrysler instrument cluster lights out, headlights flash

1993 Chrysler Concorde Instrument panel/cluster lights recently stopped working. Every time you open a door or turn the ignition - the headlights flash for about 2 minutes and the instr cluster ticks like the e-flashers. The h-lights stop flashing when on, but the clicking continues.
If you fiddle with the key sometimes you can get the I-cluster lights to work, but when you turn the key to start the engine they turn off. This may have started after a jump start or after installing the battery after recharging.

Sounds like you have a problem with your alarm system. likely the ignition switch is the problem.

SOURCE: what does the word donE mean in the instrument cluster

It will flash done on the cluster after you turn the key on and off three times and it gets to the end of the trouble codes. Have you checked for power to the starter in the crank position?

SOURCE: instrument cluster bulb is out. how do i replace

It may not be a bulb, as the instrument cluster usually has a number of bulbs and they probably didn't all blow at once. Pulling instrument clusters can be touchy and may not be for the average "shadetree mechanic" however, typically there are a few screws above the cluster going into the dash pad and a few hidden behind the trim panels below the cluster.

Hi, try replacing the #9 fuse on the interior fuse panel. This fuse protects the instrument panel, license, parking and tail light circuits. The panel is located under the dash of the steering column. You will need to pry off the cover on the panel to access the fuses. The fuse you want is a 15 amp fuse located directly under the turn signal flasher. It should be easy to figure out which fuse it is because it will be 'blown' or open. This is easy to determine just by looking at the fuse once it's removed.

I have a chrysler concorde 1998 the speedo works occasionally i checked the codes with a code reader no codes were givin i checked fuses all is good any ideas?????

No generic code reader will read anything other than PCM/ECU codes, and sometimes ABS codes if you spend a little extra money.

The 1998 Chrysler Concorde also didn't have a instrument cluster that was controlled by the Body Computer. (BCM)
If your speedometer is working occasionally, then chances are that there is a intermittent short in the wiring or that one gauge is just going bad.

While you're driving or when it happens, try to pay attention to what makes it happen... Hitting bumps in the road or hitting the dash with your hand will be a sign of possible bad wiring.
If it worked when you shut the car off, and then doesn't work when you start it back up the next day could mean that the speedometer and/or instrument cluster is going bad.

How to get to the headlight switch, to replace it, on a 2002 chrysler town and country LX van?

Remove the trim bezel around the instrument cluster. You may also need to remove the instrument cluster as well. there are two bolts securing the switch housing to the bezel.

Dash lights do not light up sometimes, other times on and after a while off, sometimes not turn on, but then go on alone.

Does adjusting the dimmer control for the dash lights have any effect on getting them to come on, or at least flicker?

The most likely cause is a defective dimmer control on the headlight switch. I've seen this on a few Chrysler models. The headlight switch and dash light dimmer is generally part of a single assembly, and is replaced as a complete module.

Instrument panel lights suddenly stopped working the remaining cluster lights (low fuel, check engine, etc) work fine. I checked the dimmer switch and it works fine

I also had the instrument panel go out yesterday on our 2008 Sebring LX. I wish someone could give clear answers to the problem without bringing it down to the dealership. $$$

It sounds like you may have a bad ground to the instrument panel. Check any "black wire" connections to the instrument panel and trace them to where they are connected to the body of the car. If you have recently had work done to the car that required removal of potential ground points (such as an alarm install, car stereo, etc) pay particular attention to those areas.
