As far as I know, it opens the same way any other gas cap opens. Twist it in the counterclockwise direction. However, the bike may have a custom style gas cap installed on it. Evidently this is a previously owned bike that you have because I'm sure it's need fuel in it since it was first sold.
Aftermarket caps come in all types. One of the most popular are the flush fitting aircraft type caps. These open by pressing them downward and releasing the pressure quickly. The cap will jump up allowing you to take it off.
I had the same problem. My gas door wouldn't open when I pulled the lever. My boyfriend was just messing around with my car one day and he connected a medium-sized spring to the bolt on the lower right corner...below where the gas cap goes. Now the door opens automatically when the lever is pulled. Hope this helps.
Autozone or oreily just any gas cap just about will do. To force open use a flat head screw driver, hammer and pliers. Drive the FLAT tip screw driver into the gas cap and use the pliers to turn. These vehicles did not come factory with locking gas cap so some one has replaced it once before. Don't worry the worst you can do is ruin the gas cap which is no good to you any way.
