SOURCE: how to change oil for2007 heritage softail classic

The oil drain us usually a hose with a plug in it that is held by a clip on the frame. It us usually on the right hand side of the bike just behind and underneath the transmission side cover. Loosen the clamp and pull the plug out. The oil will run out of the tank. Replace plug and add new oil to the tank.

The fork oil is a very specific job needing a manual and a special tool, I don't want to insult anyones mechanical knowledge but if you have never done it before, best to take somewhere else. Engine oil on the other hand is easy, the drain tube to any softail is on the right side by where the frame meets the swing arm, has somekind of plug in it. Start and run bike for a little while, long enough to get it warm but not hot. Remove fill plug and then remove plug in drain line. Using a peice of cardboard or something put in between filter and frame , directing the oil to your drain pan instead of where ever it goes. Put 1 qt oil back in (after everything is reinstalled) start the bike and make sure the oil light goes out, when it does shut bike off and fill to the point that when it is standing upright you get a little oil on the tip of your finger, over filling may result in loss of oil cap from pressure (been there)

How to replace drive belt on a 1993 harley davidson heritage softail classic?

To remove a Softail drive belt FIRST remove the rear wheel then remove the primary chain, the clutch, the engine compensating sprocket, and the chain adjuster as an assembly, then remove the primary chaincase housing, place a support under the rear fork and engine, remove the pivot shaft and spacer, slip the drive belt off from the transmission sprocket.

To replace a Softail drive belt FIRST not that all belts, used or new, must never be formed into a loop smaller than 5.0 in. (130 mm), and must never be bent backwards because this can severely weaken the belt and cause premature failure if it, then install the belt over the transmission sprocket, install the pivot shaft and spacer, remove the support holding the engine and rear fork, install the primary chaincase housing, the primary chain, the clutch, the engine compensating sprocket, and the chain adjuster and the primary chaincase cover, fill primary the primary chaincase with oil, install the rear wheel, align the rear wheel and properly adjust the belt tension to the specified deflection.

What is the recomended oil for a 1997 harley davidson heritage softail classic

Harley recommends you use their 20w50 or Syn 3 (synthetic) oil. If you use Syn 3, you can also use it in the trans and primary. If you use conventional oil, Harley's Formula Plus goes in the trans and primary. Truth be told, any good high quality motorcycle oil (Amsoil, etc) made for air cooled engines will work in the crankcase.

Where are the oil drain plugs on 06 heritage softail

Oil tank drain plug is a hose on the right side of the bike that goes down to a fitting on the frame, behind the transmission. The drain plug is threaded into this fitting on the frame and is accessible from under the right frame rail.
Trans drain plug is underneath the trans housing.
Primary drain is to the rear of the primary housing.

Chanmge from conventional 20W50 oil to synthetic

Not a problem, I've done it on my '94 model Wide Glide. Your bike probably came from the factory with synthetic oil in it. Harley developed their Syn3 20W50 oil and the bikes are shipped with the stuff in all three compartments, the engine, the primary, and the transmission. Just check the manufactures website to make sure whatever oil you decide to use meets Harley's specs.

Good Luck
Steve
