SOURCE: bike height
I think the 696 is 30" or 31". If it helps, my inseam is 31" inches and I can easily flatfoot it (lots of bend in the knees). It's taller than my 695 for sure--even with the touring seat.
SOURCE: how to reach the battery on 696 monster
Under gas tank cover
First get a 3 mm hex key and remove all the side panel screws and
remove the screws that hold the cover around the gas filler cap, and
remove the two plastic side panels. After the screws are out the side
panels the panels slide forward and will come out. There are two hex
screws (size ?) that have to be removed to release the fuel tank.
One is under the tank and is accessed from the rear with about a 1 foot
extension for the hex bit. The other is on the front rt side and is
quite obvious. There is enough fuel hose on the tank that you can
simply prop-up the front of the tank with a piece or wood or anything
convenient and get access to the battery. I put battery tender leads on
my 696. Hardest part is removing all the small screws that hold the
side panels and cover for the fuel tank.

SOURCE: My Ducati 750 Monster Battery is Dead. What kind ...
A smaller car 12v 4 or 5 amps charger will do the job, the slower the battery is charged the better, so use the lower setting if available.
charge it out of the bike, this way you can check the water level, and if it overflows it wont spray acid over your engine and frame.
If it doesnt start the bike after a charge, get a new battery, as running a sad battery can overload the charging electrics. and dont jump start it of a car battery that will accept more amps than the bike can produce
