2005 v star 650 wont start after running out of gas

I ran it out of gas. Filled it up and it will not start. The fuel pump primes when I turn on the key. Spark to both plugs. Gas is on. Would not push start. It turns over but just wont start.

If the fuel pump is priming, would it be the relay? Also I have the service manual but I am not seeing where the relay is. Anyone know exactly where it is located?

SOURCE: NOISY FUEL PUMP ON 650 YAMAHA VSTAR (2002)

your fuel pump suppose to Hum and gently vibrate only when working normally, clacking sound would only mean that it is having a hard time or inconsistently supplying gasoline into your engine. Have it checked and see if any improvement would happen.

i would say its either drawing air or the carbs need setup. You have to check the breather pipes and the rubber manifolds for cracks or splits.
if carbs need setup, then its best taking it to a good garage, to have them balanced and adjusted.

SOURCE: 2007 yamaha virago won't start - replaced spark

it's not that your not gettin gas it's that the gas is not getting thru the carbs to the engine. your bike will probably start w/choke on and then die, your jets are clogged and happens to most bikes that are stored w/gas in the carbs.,,,clean them if you know how or take it to a trusted mech...good luck to you...Tim

SOURCE: gas cap v star 650

best bet would be to get a new one also remembering how much the dealers charge for there products i would go aftermarket threw partsunlimited, cruiser, or Tucker rocky but the dealer still has to order it for you, all have great quality products at cheaper prices than O.E.M replacements unless your still under warranty.

I replaced the fuel pump on a 2001 v star 650 ,do I have to prime the carb too?

You shouldn't need to do that. It's an electric pump and it should prime the carb as soon as you turn the ignition on

Ran out gas put gas in it still wont start

If you run out of gas in this truck it will quickly destroy a fuel pump, the electric pump is located inside the gas tank, it is tiny and to do its job it uses the gasoline it is immersed in for cooling, if you run the tank below 1/8 tank level the pump is going to run hot, if you run out of gas the pumps rotor bearings get very hot and if the pump gets hot enough the rotor seizes up. Also when you run out of gas it takes more than 1 gallon to get the pump to prime again, 3 gallons minimum is the least amount. The bottom line here is that you will more than likely need to pull the fuel tank and replace the fuel pump.

I Have a 2005 Yamaha V Star 650 Motorcycle-bike just stopped running (60 mph) , would not restart. Battery good, fuel full, spark at plug any idea's to troubleshoot?

Try tapping on your fuel pump with a plastic hammer with the ignition switched on. Or bypassing the fuel pump completely with a piece of fuel line. It sounds like you ran out of gas which is related to the fuel petcock position or a non-functioning fuel pump.

Where is my fuel pump at? on a 1995 chevy camero 3.4 yes ran the car out of gas put so in wont start now what should i do first

Your fuel pump is in the tank. Turn on the ignition, and listen if you can hear the pump run in the tank. It will only run a few seconds if the engine is not running. You can repeat this several times to prime the fuel injection.

My explorer ran out of gas, i filled it up to about a half a tank, now it just turns over but wont start

if it's fuel injected, look on the fuel rail for a schrader valve--looks just like a valve stem on a tire but shorter.remove cap, again just like on a tire.turn key to on-push valve stem in as if to let air out if you get air, then gasoline, you have just bled the system.replace cap, start car.if you get no gas, remove gas tank cap, turn on key, listen for ""hum'' of fuel tank.no hum, check fuel pump.modern[plastic] fuel pumps will self destruct if run dry, even for a short time.

99 gmc wont start

check electric fuel pump operation ( located in the fuel tank ). Occasionally a fuel pump will burn out when running out of fuel, due to the fact the pump runs DRY for about 30 seconds till the fuel stops flowing out of the injectors, the engine quits, simultainously losing oil pressure which FINALLY shuts off the fuel pump. Sometimes TOO LATE. Hope this helps

93 mercury villager ran out of gas. filled with gas will not star

When you ran it out of gas you may have ruined the fuel pump. They are very touchy. you can check it by having someone listen under the car by the fuel tank and you turn the key to the on position, be sure not to try and start it. When you turn the key to the on position you should hear the pump prime its self. If you dont the pump is bad if you do then you might look into the fuel filter it may have gotten clogged when it ran out of gas.

After running out of gas wont start

after you put gas in it did you prime the system?

when the gas runs out it drains the fuel lines, so after you put gas in the tank you will need to prime the system. To do this turn the key on to run but don't crank the starter and count to three, then key off and out. Do that three to four times and that should take care of getting gas to the engine.

Make sure you can hear the fuel pump turn on when you turn the key on. Sometimes when you run low on gas it can overheat the fuel pump causing it to fail.
