Grab a paperclip.

Place the bike in Neutral, and take the rear seat cowling off. On the side of the bike between the tail section and the trunk you will find a connector that is covered by a rubber cap, and has two wires running into it. Remove the cap and take note of which one of the 4 sockets the two wires go to. Turn the bike ON and start it up, short the wires out with the paperclip. Where your speedo was flashing a -CHEC- with the temp should now be a CXX error code. Write this code down. Then shut the bike off. Match the code up with the list below. Grab a Manual and get to work!

(What you have just done is put the bike into "Dealer Mode".

C14 - THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
C15 - ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR

SOURCE: Starting problem

Sounds like you might have cooked the battery. Try with a new one, start the bike and see how it runs. Hopefully you didnt fry anything else.

SOURCE: 04-5 gsxr 1000

My 04 gsxr 1000 was parked for a year and a half when i bought it. I had a ton of rust in the fuel tank. The engine is fuel injected so it needs a free flowing fuel pump to keep a constant pressure. more than likely the strainer at the bottom of the pump housing is plugged up full of rust. You will need to remove the tank from the bike and drain all the bad fuel. Unbolt the pump housing from under the tank take care not to damage the o ring. Separate the pump from the housing by pulling apart. This may take some brute force because the rust tends to stick the pump to the housing. Once separated you will see the plastic micro strainer it will be solid brown impregnated by rust. Carefuly remove it and soak it in some fresh clean gosoline. Swish it around in a glass jar with a lid on it if possible. This worked for me. The alternative is a new strainer for about 100.00 USD. Clean the rest of the pump externally with a soft bristle brush. Drain the pump as best you can. Do not attempt to disassemble the pump as it is sealed and considered maintenance free. Ventalate the tank untill completely dry and blow it out with compressed air untill no more rust dust comes out of it. At this point you can recoat the inside of the tank if you wish, there is a product called kreme for that. Im cheap so i didn't recoat mine. Reassemble, refill with high octane fuel and dont store long term without draining the fuel tank completely and run the engine til it starves itself of fuel. With all this said YOU ARE DEALING WITH FUEL BE CAREFUL, DONT BLOW YOURSELF UP!!!

I have a 2003 Suzuki TL1000R. It was running fine, then I stopped for gas. When I tried to start it, it would only turn over slowly, but would not fire, and the little F1 light came on. Help??

Open your rear seat and you'll see a black cap covering a connector/harness on the left side of the seat. If you take the cap off, you'll see it appears to be a normal harness. With your key in the ignition and bike turned to "on" (but not running), take a paperclip and short the two connectors out (by touching the two contacts together). This is known as a "ghetto dealer mode switch". It should display the error code on your display instead of just FI now.

I have an 02 gsxr 1000. A red warning light is coming on indicating fi,oil or coolant issues. Oil was just changed and fresh, no overheating problems. Seems to b running good. How do I figure out what's...

The lcd display should show either an oil symbol, a temp symbol, or fi to let you know which system the warning light is for. The oil symbol should be present before starting the motor and go away once the engine is running, if not you have an oil pressure problem. If it is FI, then you will need to jumper the test connector located under the seat to retrieve the codes on the display and a service manual to look up the code.

F 1 appeares on dash bike turns over but wont fire

The sensors on the bike have detected a problem in the FI ( fuel Injection ) system. Take it to a dealer and they can plug in a code reader to see what is causing the problem.

When warming up, my K3 GSX-R1000 red light (oil) stays illuminated & F.1 displays where temp is.. what does it mean

I have been told this is the "dealer mode" and it might clear if you the bike off then turn the key back to the on position, but don't start the bike, turn it off then start the bike. this is supposed to reset the FI light.

To find out why it has brought this light up in the first place might require you actually taking it to a dealer, but there are lots of forums and info on this bike on the web
