Engine starts and idles fine, but will not rev up (2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.1 diesel auto)

Has run fine for some time, well serviced etc. When problem came on car was being driven fine when suddenly car simply slowed down, engine still running but only on idle. When first looked at you could start engine fine and the first press of the throttle pedal would rev the engine up ok, but subsequent presses of the pedal did nothing. Now that 'single' rev up has gone as well. So starts and idles fine, will not rev. Fault code first showed throtlle potentiometer fault, replaced with spare (second hand), no change. Also no fault code now logged. Any ideas anyone??

If it was a fuel shortage the engine would rev but to limited speed. This is a lack of air to throttle body. Check for clogged air filter and all the piping and the throttle body.

Check the 'idle air control valve' which is mounted on the throttle body. It sounds like it is not functioning properly, it's about a $75 part.

SOURCE: I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.5 diesel.

Soungs like egr valve is stuck open. Take it off and look inside small hole on the bottom. The pintle inside should be all the way closed. If not then replace the egr.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When I stop at a light engine revs up and feels like it is trying to push the car. Then the car dies.It will start back and run fine after that.

Could be a sticking idle air control valve, or dirty throttle body.
The computer uses the valve to control idle speed by regulating the amount of air into the intake.

1997 jeep grand cherokee. low idle 500 rpm, runs fine but letting off the throttle it dies. starts right back up fine.

Most of the time an engine is supposed to idle at 5-600 RPM in Driveif it's not you can up the idle. But you also may have a vaccume leak.

Pretty simple it's located on the intake on the top of the engine two screws and one plug , sometimes you can just clean them with carb and choke cleaner and put them back in and they will work fine.

2001 jeep grand cherokee wont reverse in

This could be an issue with the shift solenoid , but can also be caused by low fluid due to a leak, check your fluid. Is there a check engine light on, if there is it could be a solenoid issue.

2001 Nissan Maxima- runs rough, stalls when idle

Timing belt could have skipped a tooth.

Horrible vacuum leak could have started. Listen for suction noises when you raise the hood.

Someone could have poured sugar in your tank.

You could have put diesel in your tank instead of gas.

Could be a bad MAP sensor, TPS sensor, etc.

Need more details to be precise.
