Adjusting fuel carburetor

There are a few possible reasons why your Charade is producing black smoke, even after you have serviced the carburetor:

1. The carburetor may still not be functioning properly. Make sure that all of the carburetor's components are clean and functioning correctly.
2. The air filter may be clogged or dirty, which can cause the carburetor to mix too much fuel with the air. Check the air filter and replace it if necessary.
3. The fuel mixture may be too rich (too much fuel, not enough air). This can be caused by a variety of factors, including a faulty carburetor, a clogged fuel filter, or a malfunctioning oxygen sensor.
4. The spark plugs may be fouled or worn out, causing the engine to misfire and produce black smoke. Check the spark plugs and replace them if necessary.

Here are a few tips to look at, I would first check your inline fuel filter to make sure its not clogged up. See Page 26 of the Manual for additional help.

PROBLEM
Will not start

CAUSE CORRECTION
1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank.
2. Engine not "CHOKED" properly. 2. See "TO START ENGINE" in Operation section.
3. Engine flooded. 3. Wait several minutes before attempting to start.
4. Bad spark plug. 4. Replace spark plug.
5. Dirty air filter. 5. Clean/replace air filter.
6. Dirty fuel filter. 6. Replace fuel filter.
7. Water in fuel. 7. Empty fuel tank and carburetor, refill tank with fresh gasoline and replace fuel filter.
8. Loose or damaged wiring. 8. Check all wiring.
9. Carburetor out of adjustment. 9. See "To Adjust Carburetor" in Service Adjustments
section.
10. Engine valves out of adjustment. 10. Contact an authorized service center/department.

There are many problems with small engines that can make them hard to start. The carburetor is one of them. Make certain that you have adjusted the new carburetor correctly. A good place to start is 1 1/2 to 2 turns counterclockwise from the closed position on the main fuel adjustment needle. Adjust in or out to best performance when engine is running. Some carburetors also have a fuel adjustment needle for the idle mixture. Start off with 1 to 1/2 turns counterclockwise from closed and adjust in or out to best idle performance. Other potential problems include bad spark plug, ignition system (points and condenser in your unit?) and a defective intake and/or exhaust valve.

Time to have the carburetors or carburetor synced up and adjusted. The Air/Fuel mix is off. Remember to rate my solution.

2. Faulty spark plug.
3. Bad Gas.
4. Improper oil level.
5. Improper chain adjustment and lubrication.
6. Low tire pressure.
7. Dirty or contaminated carburetor needs cleaning and tuning.
8. Broken carburetor spring.
9. Carburetor spring on backwards.
10. Vacuum leak on carburetor or intake boot.
11. Too much slack in the throttle cable
12. Clogged or faulty fuel pump filter or injectors.
13. Faulty pressure regulator.
14. Improper valve adjustment.
15. Slipping clutch.
16. Improper timing.
17. Low compression.
