Passenger side front to rear 2,4,6,8, driver side 1,3,5,7. Distributer rotates clockwise. Number 1 is usually marked on the cap.
Leads for distributor cap should be connected as illustrated.
RH - Right Hand side of engine, when viewed from rear.
LH - Left Hand side of engine, when viewed from rear.
SOURCE: trying to get timing set i can get top dead center
Here is the firing order diagram for that engine, and the ignition points should have a gap of .025 in. or a 35 degrees dwell angle, and the spark plug gap is .034 in., and the ignition timing should be set at 6 degrees before TDC with a standard transmission, and 12 degrees before TDC with an automatic transmission. If the distributor was removed then it will have to be installed correctly, and let me know if you require any further assistance.
Testimonial: "thank you for the diagram i tried it but still it wont crank i guess maybe the carb it was running fine then stated misssing like it was out of fuel"

Have a look at the coil and its supply lead, standard it has a 9v coil and a resistor wire in the harness, this gives trouble ar resistor wire is odd and will not solder or weld and its expansion when hot loosens crimps! If you put 12 volts into a 9v coil it overwhelms (magneticly) the windings and gives a poor spark, also burns the points.
