Wrong size rims and tires
SOURCE: what is the gas mileage on our s-10 zr2
Some Suggestions, you may have done them already. Change oil to 5W-30,change the air filter,Tune the engine,Check your tire pressure weekly. For every pound of underinflation, you can lose up to six percent in gas mileage, so if your tires are five pounds underinflated, you'll use up to 30% more gas.,get a wheel alignment, remove the tailgate, use cruise control "if equipped"whenever it is safe to do so,
SOURCE: Will different tire sizes work?
Hello Linton...the used tires should work if they are 14 inch....Check for proper clearance... They will be a little taller than the ones that came on your escort.
Your speedometer will not be accurate with the taller tires, it will be a few MPH's off...just a reminder so you wont get a ticket.
Good luck...i hope this helps.

I would advise you to leave both sides with 235 45 17 this tire size would provide you with better handling and improved comfort also tires wil be more protected of suffering damage in the sidewalls caused by bumps and potholes just remember to keep them inflated at 38 +/- 2 psi.
Testimonial: "hey thanks for the advice. I order HANKOOK V12 235 45 17 tires, after installation results are very well.Handling and braking inceased smooth driven"

I would say change the VSS ( vehicle speed sensor ) It is located on the top of the differential for the rear end. I belive it will take a 1/2 inch or 13mm wrench to remove it. It is about twenty five bucks from the dealer. This should get the speedo working. If this is bad the E4OD transmission cannot verify where it should be shift wise and shifts erratically.
The size of the engine alone will not
determine gas mileage. There are many other
factors including vehicle weight, design of the motor, etc. So in answer to
question 1, size isn't going to matter.
For question #2, make sure you change the
oil, oil filter, air filter and keep the tires inflated to recommended specs.
That might help you out a bit...

Yes everyone knows that. I fixed my problem last night, both emergency brake cables where frozen and causing a drag on wheels. I replaced them and now I noticed that the truck is rolling freely. I am sure this was the problem, I was only getting like 12 miles to a gallon, my old ranger with the same engine got 18 to 20.
