How to replace the choke cable on a yamaha xt125r

Fitted it from the handle bar to the carb. but cant get the plunger in the carb out. its stuck solid

choke cables normaly last for ever, so it prob needs just a bit of oil. remove upper end of cable, tape a cone on it and pour some 20/50 into it. if it is broken, observe the set up and replace.

The problems with a plunger style choke happen when the rubber on the bottom becomes deformed and does not seal or the spring does not push the plunger down hard enough, or the cap breaks so the plunger is not pushed down hard enough. If you put your finger over the hole and the bike runs properly your bike is running on choke. You have to block the hole deep inside the carb to shut off the choke. I assume the original problem was that the bike would not idle .If this is the case, take the carb apart remove the slow jet and clean the jet and the carb body out so fuel will flow at idle. This should fix your no idle problem.

I shotgunned a bunch of things including new petcock value filter in tank, taking carb off and cleaning jets, float bowl, and various orifices, replaced intake manifold (thought it could be a vacuum leak from some cracks seen), plus some other things I'm probably forgetting. Each change seemed to fix problem for a while, but it would always return (problem was always intermittent). Recently I noticed just moving the choke cable (without changing choke setting) was causing bike idle to change, then it died hard and would not start again after I fiddled with cable a bit - tried ether, etc. Since it fired right up after taking choke cable off I ordered a new one, still waiting for it, hopefully that'll fix it. I couldn't find anyway to adjust choke cable though manual debug section claims it can mis-adjusted. If this still fails I'll probably take the carb off again and try cleaning again. Been an intermittent thorn in my side for a while now. Thanks for the suggestions!! "

How do I hook up a choke cable on a 250 chinese enduro dirt bike?
some carbs with a cable choke, im assuming the lever is on the handlebars will screw in and no movement will be visible as it all goes on inside the carb, like for instance on my rg125 gamma, it has a lever on the handlebars and the cable goes into a plastic nut that is screwed into the carb, if you remove the plastic nut inside is a plunger and spring and the plunger just blocks a hole stopping the air going through but unless you remove this plastic (sometimes these are brass) nut then you wont see anything happening from the outside, if this nut and cable is missing leaving a hole in your carb then this is going to cause vacuum leak problems which will make starting difficult, a temporary fix could be to just block this hole and make the carb air tight again but make sure you dont block it all the way to the bottom else this will choke your carb and cause rich running, just cap it if you can, you may find just capping it will be good enough for the bike to start just fine as with a vacuum leak you will be running lean which could be why you need the choke in the first place lol

to get the old one out. use CLR(found in wal-mart and hardware stores.mix as instructed with warm water . put in carb submerge it
try keeping water luke warm for an hour.calcium deposit could be the problem

Hi is it your choke cable? replace it if it is.
If its the choke plunger on the carb you need to remove the carb and remove the plunger or yamaha calls it starter set and clean the inside where it attaches usually it will hve some oxidation deposits in there so it good time to clean the whole carb what i use is a carb cleaner called brand name (Sea Foam) does a great job.

I can't pull my choke completely out
Most likely there is crud inside the carb where the plunger goes in,OR the cable just needs to be lubed. Take the cable off,and clean the carb where the plunger goes in,and use some cable oil,or 3n1 oil and oil the cable.

Need to change choke cable on a 2005 yamaha viagra, 250 cc not sure how to do this
Remove the Phillips head screw under your choke lever and retrieve the wave washer and other small parts there. The cable, with a large trunnion swaged here will come away from the lever.
The Carb end is more difficult... You can opt to remove the fuel tank, pump, cable bellcrank bracket (screwed to the top of the carb) for better access. If your fingers are small enough you might try without so nuch removal but your objective is to unscrew a hexagonal connector that holds the cable/spring and choke plunger in the carb.
Pull back the dustboot over the cable and you'll see it.
You should be able to use an open end wrench to loosen it then use fingetips to unscrew it, take care when removing the whole lot from the carb- the spring and choke plunger sit on the end of the cable held only by a small 3mm swage. remove these parts from the cable and pull the cable out through its guides along the frame. Assembly is the reverse. I hope this helps
