Starter solinoid replacement enstruction

SOLENOID REPLACEMENT
(see Figures 5, 6 and 7)

Prior to removing the solenoid from the starter motor unit, matchmark the solenoid-to-starter motor housing position, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
  1. Remove the starter motor from the vehicle.
  2. Detach the solenoid-to-starter motor wire from the solenoid terminal.

Do not disassemble the solenoid; if the solenoid is defective, replace the entire unit with a new one.
  1. Remove the two attaching screws, then slide the solenoid out of the starter motor housing flange.

To install:
  1. Inspect the solenoid plunger joint for wear or other damage. Replace it, if damage is evident.
  2. Apply Suzuki Super Grease A (99000-25010) or equivalent, to the solenoid plunger and to the tip of the lever arm (inside the starter motor-to-solenoid housing hole).
  3. Insert the solenoid into the starter motor housing, ensuring that the matchmarks made during removal are aligned.
  4. Install and tighten the two attaching screws securely.
  5. Attach the starter motor-to-solenoid wire to the solenoid terminal.
  6. While the starter motor is removed form the vehicle, perform the testing procedure to ensure that the new solenoid functions properly.
  7. Install the starter motor.

How to locate starter motor in mazda 323F

The starter motor is located on the back side of the engine (closest to the firewall) underneath the fuel injection/intake manifold. To replace it, first disconnect the battery, then remove the main power cable (heavy wire) and the start wire (light wire). Next remove the two bolts for the intake manifold support bracket and remove bracket. Remove one bolt on starter rear support bracket and 3 bellhousing flange bolts (two accessible from starter side, on accessible from bellhousing side). the starter is now free and can be taken out form teh passenger's side (LHD).

The starter for my ford 460 stays running after gear is disengaged only have power to solenoid when key is in start position when the truck is shut off one can hear the starter whining down after shutting...

There is a spring in the starter that should cause it to disengage after the electricity is removed. Double check that the electricity is removed form the starter side of the solenoid, cause that is the easiest thing to check first. Then take the starter off and have it checked for free at your local auto store. If it seems OK to them it may be the starter is not the right one for the bell housing. If it sticks in to far, the starter gear may be stuck partly in the flywheel.

Don't bother repairing it...I would call up a local wrecker and get a swap over...shouldn't cost you more than $30 - $50
