Thats not totally correct. remove your air filter cover. look to the lower right side. You will see a small hole thats where the screw driver goes in to adjust your idle. Ya the dealer has a scanlizer that can also do it if u want to spend the bucks.

If you bike is equipped with a carburetor, the idle stop screw is located at the top of the carb on the right side. Counterclockwise turn slows the idle speed.

If you bike is fuel injected, a dealer or shop will have to set the idle speed electronically.

SOURCE: Throttle not snapping back to idle position on

You need to take the entire throttle control assembly off the handlebars and disconnect the cables from the carburetor. Check each cable for free movement. If you have a frayed cable, you will never get it to work correctly so check the cables. Now when you go to put the assembly back together make sure you put some thin grease on the handlebar and inside the throttle sleeve before you slide it up on the handlebar. Put white lithium grease in the area where the cables connect to the throttle sleeve the bolt the two halves of the switch housing together. Slide the switch and throttle assembly all the way up on the handlebars and then back it off about an 1/8" or so. This insures that the handlebar is not rubbing on the inside of the end of the throttle grip.

Good Luck

My 2000 road king stalls at red lights and stops signs...runs fine at higher rpms

Is the idle speed too low?

Unfortunately, if it is, with fuel injection you'll have to go to a dealership that they can "plug in" their equipment to adjust the idle.

2001 FLHRI sequencial fuel injection rev's at around 2000 RPM when hot any clues?

You have to adjust the idle cold, and hot. Warm the bbike up,and with the air filter housing off, look at the bottom right? of the backing plate, and there will be a small hole. There is a small torx bit screw in that hole that you will need to turn to adjust the hot idle. Dont quote me,but i think its a t20 or t25 torx bit.

High idle on HD, 08 Road King Classic

For fast RPM's at start that doesn't go down shortly after starting.
1) Put bike in neutral
2) Push to ON the first switch to right of starter switch next to throttle.
3) turn dial on gas tank to the On position for 5 seconds then off wait 2-3 seconds and repeat 3 more times total of 4 times
4)then Turn everything to off positions
5) wait a few seconds and start normally

I found that if you shut down the bike with rpms up a bit, it will start the next time with a faster than normal idle.

If you do this technique when the bike is cold, it will run a little fast til it warms up. Don't ask me why this works.

Start up idle to low 2001 road kin g injected

This is controlled by the computer. There is a cold fast idle setting that must be set by a dealer with the proper instrumentation to do the job.
