From what i remember on mine, it did have to come off and what a bear it was to get the seat bolts to align properly during reinstallation.

remove the seat, remove the battery, install the new battery (but install a battery tender pigtail and route it down the side), install the seat (lightly tape the hex bolts to the hex wrench so you can stick them in the blind hole) and secure the pigtail to the frame. now when the battery gets low, the seat doesn't have to be removed to top charge it.

How do I remove the seat to get to the battery to replace/re-charge the battery on my 2006 honda 650 vlx..?

The battery can be accessed by removing the right side cover and unbolting the smaller battery cover underneath the fuse box. The seat is removed by taking out the two bolts that hold it in place. I believe the two bolts are underneath the fender and go up into the seat You should not have to remove the seat to charge or remove the battery.

Remove seat and battery Yamaha tw-200

There are two seat bolts under the seat that must be removed. Obviously, if the underside of the fender is covered in mud, you'll have to clean it first. A metric socket works best to remove the bolts.

After removal of the seat bolts, lift the back of the seat, then pull straight back; a plastic flange on the front of the seat hooks under the tank, and so you have to pull it backwards to remove it.

With the seat off, removing the battery is pretty easy. A rubber strap holds the battery down; unhook and remove it. Unscrew the lead wires and unhook them (negative first), then pull the battery out.

Install a replacement battery by reversing these steps. Yamaha recommends charging a new battery before installing it.
