Now, according to Haynes, the clearances on the valves should be between 0.003" and 0.005". To me, that means 0.004" should be just about bang ...

You just need to remove the carb and clean the pilot jet. Use a small piece of wire ( i use a bristle from a wire brush). Hold it up to the light to make sure it is clear and you can see through it. Re- install and this should fix your problem.

You have a sticking float in the carburator, due to old gas, or dirt. The float moves a needle that turns on and off the flow of fuel into the carb bowl.

remove the carb .take it apart clean the jets. and the needle and seat.use small dril bits work well or fine wire..does it got spark

I assume you dumped out the half pint of old gas and rinsed out the tank. Get a new spark plug and clean the air filter. Remove the carb and dis-assemble it then soak the parts in denatured alcohol for 30 minutes. Do not soak the rubber diaphragm. Finish the cleaning with a can of spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Be sure all internal fuel and air circuits are clear and that the diaphragm is not torn or has pin holes. The top cap must have a good seal. Go to www.babbittsonline.com/parts/viewbybrand/parts.aspx to see a diagram of the carb and the rest of the bike. It looks like they have lots of parts for your bike.

The carburetor assembly is between the air filter assembly and the engine, Usually there are hose clamps that connect the carbs to the air filter housing, loosen these and see if you can pull the air filter assembly away (just a little space required).

**Before you do the same with the carb assembly where it connects to the engine, take note of the remaining items holding the carb assembly in place:

** Your accelerator cable (and possibly decelerator cable
**Fuel hose(s) coming from fuel tank

and THEN see if you can remove these before you remove the carb assembly-take note of which one went where, how it was routed, etc.

Pull the carb assembly out and work on it over a suitable drain pan, as fuel will surely drain out.

Take the bottom bowls off (4 screws each) and remove all the little parts. If you work on this over your drain pan, you will not lose anything that surprises you by falling out of it.Clean it out with a carburetor cleaner spray like GUMOUT. Might have to scrub with a tiny brush or pad in certain spots. Also be *very* careful when you get to cleaning the jets out-these are very precision and are most likely the cause of your no-start problem.

Just a very careful and thorough disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly should get you up and running.

Hey June, the correct assembly. cleaning. setting, and adjustments of the carburetor are CRITICAL....Please take the carb to a qualified professional to get it cleaned and set. Ask him which screw sets the idle speed..and you can set it when you reassemble it.. (ONLY adjust the idle speed screw!!)
IF this machine has oil injection, and its been working fine.. do not adjust it...AND .. if the oil is injected into the carb (i've seen one or two bikes with this set-up)..its working fine..the fuel/air will be taken care of when the carb is fixed! Make sure your air filter is clean!!.. and a new spark plug will help!!

hi buddy the picture below will show you the mixture screw unscrew this 1/2 of turns out if still no difference unscrew another 1/2 if getting worse screw in 1/1/2 turns it just play with it budd this is the screw that puts the correct amount of fuel with the air

Sounds like a bad battery. Try charging overnight with a 1 or 2 amp charger.
If this doesn't help then go to the dealer and ask for the stock plugs for your bike. Check for spark on each of the new plugs then install the plugs.

Remove the carbs , dissemble it and clean the varnish out. Remove the petcock, ( gas valve ),water trap and clean it out. Next let one cup of gas flow into a container. Any water or rust in the bottom of the container? If any rust was in the water trap or the container then purchase an inline fuel filter to eliminate the rust getting into the carb.

If cleaning the carb yourself does not do the trick then take it to the dealer and have them clean it and install a carb kit. This should eliminate the carb as a problem. Get a new air filter and install it.

Now you have spark, gas and air. If it still will not start it is likely that you need new crank seals. On a bike that old you may well need new crank bearings as well.
