Cross the solonoid, if it turns the engine you know just a button, small wiring problem. if it dont turn check heavy wiring, especially live to solonoid and earth from engine to battery

check for battery voltage at the large terminal on the starter. THere should be power at all times.
Have a helper turn the key to the crank position while you check for power on the smaller wire at the starter. There should be power anytime the key is in the crank position.
If there is power at both terminals than the starter is bad. If there is no power at the large wire check your battery connection. If there is no power at the the small wire you will need to trace it back to its origin.
"Worked in the past, doesn't work now", That's sort of the definition of a failure. Has the laptop been dropped? What does the laptop when you try to start? Do you see LED"s blink? Fan spins? HHD LED blink? Battery light on? Has the AC jack been damaged due to pulling on the cord? Did you try a cord/charger with the EXACT same power spec? Test the DC volts at the laptop cord plug with a multimeter. Reseat the Memory mods. May be a HDD failure? Post results
As you say has become red and no power to the hard disk. First check the power cable for any loose connections and check if it give power to the cpu and the fan placed on processor starts working as you start the power. If fan it starts and with in few seconds stops then your power supply/SMPS is weak or damage. So replace it for proper working of your computer. And if after power on all fines but red led on monitor and no power to hard disk Try to replace the hard disk power cables because they are not working because of it no operating system is detected and led of monitor is red. After replacing hard disk cables hard disk starts working and still no display or red led on monitor check the vga cable for loose connection or replace it.If you are using vga display from graphic card try to get display first from onboard vga slot.After it your problem will disappear and your pc run smooth and fine.
remove the battery and power on the system with just the power adapter. if this works, issue is either with the battery or the motherboard. remove and reconnect the battery, if no go, try using another battery from another system. If this works, it would be a battery failure. In this event, check with Dell if your battery is still within warranty. if this does not work, remove and reconnect the DIMMs of the laptop. If you have spares, swap them to see if that works
This Realy Sounds Like A Bad or Loose Ground Although it Could Be the Power Plug too Check for Loose Plug At the Blower motor And Also try to Catch When its Off but Switch is on And SMACK it With a Screwdriver this will tell its the GROUND Wiggling the Power lead W/Blower On & it comes on Says Its the Hot or POWER Lead to motor. Beyond that Its gona be the RELAY But AS I Said I think its Power or GROUND LOOSE Hope this helps !!
