These instructions are for the 1997 Honda Magna VT250CR, which comes from Japan.
The oil filter is inside the underside of the engine, and not an externally accessible part like on the larger displacement versions of the Magna (750cc).
1) There is an oil plug (12mm) which you need to remove to drain the majority of the oil from the engine
2) Once most of the oil is drained from the engine (approximately 2l), remove the nut holding the oil sump assembly together, which is right beside the oil plug, and the oil filter will be revealed once the plate comes loose.
Many other maintenance and repair instructions regarding the 1997 Honda Magna VT250CR are available on my personal video blog:

SOURCE: Oil Change
Hello!
You obviously love your steed and rightly so! (As I do mine FLHR) There are always issues as to what & which, I believe your CMX should use 10/40 or 15/40 grade? but that can change with conditions, I'm banging this to you From the U.k. so here 10/40 if a very warm climate maybe 0w/10 or similar, it really is a confusing issue.(I would be up for 10/40!) Par for course?
Firstly I would suggest a quality synthetic (Fully) your handbook will show grade, however if No handbook your supplier (Motorcycle Dealer) will have all relevant specifications on file. As for filter Go genuine it makes sense as there are naughty Far Eastern mass producers of cheap copies out there and they really don't give a didddly squat about your pride and joy so if malfunction occurs after your expensive investment! What a Bu'~mer!
Good Luck! please remember to press that BLUE button for my FREE effort!
Thank You!
Paul 'W' U.K.

SOURCE: 96 Honda Magna air filter location?
It's under the gas tank. You need to remove the gas tank to access the air filter. There are two screws on either side of the rubber two-port air intake that need to be removed. then slide the air intake down (pull toward the rear of bike) to slide it off. Then remove the screws that hold down the air filter cover (about 9 of them - four short ones in the front and 5 long ones on the rear half). Now pop the cover up and slide it out sideways between the bottom of the bike frame and the lower half of air filter housing. This will make perfect sense as you begin this process. This is a difficult filter to access.
