2010 triumph thunderbird. Do i check oil level with bike level or leaned over on kickstand. I bought this bike used and no owners manual came with bike. Where can i get one?

You should check the oil level on a level ground and it should be standing. If your triumph motor has a center stand, better use that then check the oil level. If you change oil, you also need to change the oil filter. For the manual, go to http://www.triumphmotorcycles.com/

Hope this helps

How many quarts of oil are in the crank case?

My wife rides the same bike. The manual says for an oil change only is 1.9 qts. for oil & filter change is 2.1 qts. & for an engine overhaul it is 2.5 qts.

I just bought a 1998 Honda Shadow 1100. The

I doubt the bike has 100k on it, thats alot of riding! If it runs and looks good just figure it is a typo and ride it. As far as the oil filter that bike uses a spin on filter, it is painted black, screws on the front of the engine just above the oil pan just to the right of center.

This is not a problem, but rather a clarification. I just bought a used 2005 Silverwing -- it had less than 1,100 miles on it -- and I know that the previous owner changed the oil at 600 miles. The service...

Hi Linda, If that is what the manual says then who are we to argue with Honda? Engine quality has improved hugely and so service intervals can be long. How you ride the bike and in what conditions will have an influence on how often you should change the oil, filters and so on. I have made it a point of changing the oil on every bike I have owned at 2000km (1600 mile) intervals. I figuer my engine will last twice as long that way, and I should have fewer mechanical problems. Bikes have small sumps so the cost is not too high and a motorcycle engine works at higher revs than a car so I figure let it have good oil to work in.

How do you check the oil level on 2003 suzuki savage 650, and how do you change the oil on same bike, and what is the oil capacity for this bike, and does it have an oil filter? thanks. mike

at the bottom of the engine on the brake side of the bike, around the gearbox, there's a look through window with a low level and a high level marked on it, the oil should be between those after it's heated, check it hot, let the engine run 3 minutes or so, you have to put the bike up right to correctly check the oil level, which means you'll need a friend to hold the bike up while you look at the level through the window, or you can use a brick or something under the kick stand to keep the bike more level, just be careful. To change the oil, you'll need to get an oil filter and 2.1 quarts (I think that's the right amount, it's 2000 ml) of 10w - 40 oil and then all the stuff to catch the old oil and funnels and rags and an allen wrench, I think it'll be a 4mm allen wrench, but I'm not sure on that, check with your bike, there are 3 allen wrench bolts that are holding a panel onto your gear box, behind this panel is your oil filter. Drain oil first before taking this panel off and changing your filter, there's bolt on the kickstand side of the engine at the bottom of the bike, it's sideways, this is the drain plug for the oil, it'll probably be hot so careful unscrewing it, take it out and the oil will pour out, but it's sideways so it's going to be messy, use a funnel or something to direct the oil into a bucket or container of some kind. after oil is drained, replace drain plug, now use an allen wrench and take off the panel on your gear box, pull out the oil filter, discard of properly, put the new oil filter in. put the panel back on the gear box. on the same side there's a black plastic turn screw cap that's where the new 2.1 quarts of oil goes in there. if you don't change the filter the amount of oil you use is less, put the plastic cap back on and you're done.

I reccomend taking it to a mechanic to do this, but, I'm going to do mine myself, I think I'm just going to add oil to mine, it's low, I have a 2008 Suzuki S-40 which is the same thing as a Savage, with just different badging.

I am not a professional or anything so, I'm just reading from the owner's manual that came with my bike. best of luck.

Overheating

After it cools it starts back up without a problem? What is the color of the center electrode insulator on the spark plug? If the bike is overheating due to a lean air fuel mixture, the electrode would be white or gray in color. If the bike continues to overheat make sure you fix the problem quick because your engine will probably lock up for good before too long. When the bike is HOT and it shuts down check for spark... I've had some ignition coils fail after getting hot.

Regards, ,according to 900 Sei WORKSHOP MANUAL Additions and changes to the workshop manual for 500 Quattro-750 Sei whose print date appears to be 2-80, AGIP SINT 2000 SAE 10 W 50 oil is to be used for the engine. I drained the oil and changed the filter on my 1979 750 with 380 miles on it last May. I bought the bike new but haven't used it since 1993. The oil and filter were again changed after 12 miles. regards,,,
