    Hi,

At higer rev it doesnt make that sound/noise? or you cant tell because of the exhaust noise is too loud to hear the clutch noise?

    I would check the trannyoil.

Glazed alternator clutch plates? Kind of a ratcheting sound? Common when oil wasn't changed or sitting unused too long.
1. Easy fix - drain oil, remove filter. Add diesel fuel to crankcase. Turn engine over. let sit and drain. Refill with new nonsynthetic oil and replace filter. Warm up. Drain, remove filter. Refill with fresh nonsynthetic oil, and install new filter.
2. Harder, but better. Remove plates and clean or replace them.

I think the noise u r describing is a characteristic of the cbx, not a "problem" . mine has a sort of "scraping" whirring type noise especially upon deceleration, i have ridden many cbx's virtually all have the noise. actually something 2 do with starter if memory serves me.

SOURCE: 1979 honda cbx 6 cylinder, no power at 1 coil. no

If you mean no output power, coil is bad. If you mean no input power 12v, there is a fault in the wiring. If you mean no signal from stator, wiring problem as well

All Honda's make a rattle sound at idle. It goes away when you pull in the clutch lever or drive down the road. New or old , it is a normal sound for a Honda motorcycle. It did it when it was brand new and it will do it when it has 120,000 miles on it. Understand it, get used to it, any Honda rider will tell you there is no way to stop it . It is just a normal Honda sound.. Now go out and ride.

1979 Honda CBX will not idle

Hi, Anonymous you need to make sure you have no intake leaks by spraying some Brake Kleen, Contact Cleaner, Starting Fluid etc. around the intake manifold and seals, if the RPM's go up or down significantly then you have a leak that needs to be fixed before you can continue with the carburetor adjustment.
The engine should be at operating temperature with the choke off to set the idle between 950-1050 rpm. Turn the idle skrew clockwise to increase the idle speed and counterclockwise to decrease the idle speed. If you have access to your air-fuel mixture skrew you may turn it as well, if not there is a video below on how to gain access, make sure you start with clean or new spark plugs. Gently turn the air-fuel mixture skrew clockwise until it starts to bottom out "STOP" do not over tighten as it will damage the taper on the end, now back the skrew out 1-1/2 full turns to establish a starting point start the engine and check the idle rpm's and turn the idle skrew accordingly for 950-1050 rpm if necessary, turn the air-fuel mixture skrew 1/4 turn at a time and let the engine settle for about 10 seconds, turn the skrew clockwise for a leaner mixture and counterclockwise for a richer mixture, you are seeking the highest rpm your air-fuel mixture skrew can acquire without going past 3 full turns from bottom then resetting the idle skrew back down to 950-1050 rpm If you can not detect any rpm change and can not stall the engine by turning the air-fuel mixture skrew all the way in then your pilot/low-speed jet is too big and needs to be replaced with the next size smaller. Final adjustment should be made with a clean air filter mounted to the carburetor.

I have an engine knock when the bike idles, this goes away when the clutch is pulled in. It also goes away when the bike ticks over about 900 - 1000 revs?

I have the same thing on my 2002 750 Honda Magna I have 20,000 miles (32,000 kilometers) The motorcycle operates flawlessly except for this noise. What it is, is the wear in the clutch plates allowing them to rattle. When you pull the clutch you have put pressure on these plates and the rattle stops. Also when you increase the revs a little the plates tighten up from centrifugal force. I'm just putting up with it until I have to replace the clutch, after replacement of the worn parts the noise will be gone as well.
