Re: i need air mix settings for a 1996 zzr 250 kawasaki
It sounds like your low speed idle jets are still cloged as they are very small openings you may need to soak them in thinners then use a air compresser to blow them out ,and see if you can see through them ,i have found a steel guitar string the smallest can fit some of them hope it works cheers

sounds like carbs need a service, are sliders free and moving correctly, is there any restriction to fuel flow, fuel tap, is air filter good. any air leaks around carbs
The fuel mixture is probably running too lean. Old, hardened rubber seals between the carb and the cylinder are letting un-carbureted air into the fuel/air mix.
Could be one of two things
1. The carbs are gummed up. Modern fuel will break down after only a few months. The idle jets are quite small and will easily become blocked. Strip and clean the carbs.
2. The throttle cable is sticky. Less likely, but possible. Make sure it opens and snaps shut easily.
What do you mean when you say you tried more air?
hi ,
Is your carby well fixed? If your air intake is too big ,the bike will not run properly .
Make sure the carby is not taking additional air or not enough .
Clean the air filter , tune the carby with the mixing screw air/fuel
sounds like you blew a set of piston rings. instead of building compression in the cylinder its pressurizing your crank case forceing the oil out the breather into your air box
Put a carby kit through it and clean, inspect and blow all ports through, check intake rubbers for any leaks, (pin holes can change air fuel ratio) Especially check for obstructions in your idle/bypass jet, do the kit first so you know its right, then tune your idle mix until steady.
