I think you have a failing fuel pump. This is exactly what they do when they are about done working.

What a great truck I've had two, one I drove around in mexico for 6 months. You need to change the fuel filter. It is located under the truck on the fuel line coming from tank about even with the seat. You need a wrench set. Make sure you have the arrow on the new filter going the proper way, toward the motor. If it starts up and runs fine then the firing order isnt your problem you must have some sort of vacuum issue possibly not enough air

Sounds like the fuel supply through is inadequate. That is a Want-to-be fuel injection system that uses a relay to enrichen the gas mixture.

Solution could be a container of fuel system cleaner, and a spray or two of carb cleaner in the injector.

Other causes could be:
Failure of the "choke" to richen the gas mixture
Vacuum line leakage.
Fuel filter becoming clogged

The neutral safety switch is out of adjustment. Most bike won't start unless it is in Neutral or the clutch lever pulled in. Get a new battery and charge it up full. The intake boots need to be replaced or it will run lean. That is why you need to chock it to get it to run.
