1978 Yamaha XT500 Oil in frame; Pukes oil up into intake...

At the back of the crank case there is a puck looking thing with nothing inside of it and it's connected to the bottom of the air box. It sometimes works fine and sometimes it pukes oil...Found a plugged crank case vent tube, but, no difference... Just kicking over can make it puke oil. The dipstick is up by the handle bars and the level fluxuates up and down depending on if it is puking or not. Runs good when it does run, decent compression,, can't remember the psi though..Can't find any info in the book about oil in frame system. I even took it to 4 seasons,,Guy thought it was valve guides..or rings... Is there a valve I don't know about? Is there a website that explains the principals of it's opperation?
Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks..

P.s. just ignore the xj700 maxim...

oil in tank drains into crankcase and spews out of crankcase breather when kicked over. Why is this happening?.Any ideas?

Drained all oil and filled with correct amount and ignored dipstick level until after running it. It runs Great now!!!

update if you pull the plastic right hand plug out and oil comes out more than likely the ball ck. seal needs replaced by taking the right clutch cover off

I have a 78 tt500 and I have just put on a lighting kit from kedo.and have also put on a front brake perch from an xt so that the brake light works.as the bike has no battery and is stock standard how do I...

All I can say about it is Motor out of the frame. One just have to do a compression test before pulling the motor. Not real good. If not satisfied pour a bit of oil in the sparkplug hole and tested again, almost 130 lbs. Top end time. When the oil will be drained the oil from the frame, the first thing out was several ounces of water.

Where is the oil fill hole on a stratoliner 2006 1900

  • There are a total of three plugs. Two of them are under the engine and the other one is under the crank case. The fill hole is on the bottom left front of the motor between the frame rail coming out of the bottom left side. Remove the oil fill plug out out of the front left bottom side of the inside of the frame rail. It's a tight fit so you will need a open ended wrench.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

1980 yamaha xt500.Oil level drops on the dipstick.Continually topping it up, however when I eventually drain oil I have much more than is required. There is no major leaks and doesn't blow smoke. Why is...

I f your bike has the remote oil tank, I think there is a non return valve in one of the oil lines which may be stuck open allowing oil to settle in the sump.

I have water getting into my oil in the crank case but not likely through the head gasket becase the exhaust doen't smoke until the oil water mixture pukes out the brether tube on the crankcase

Hi mate I have no idea what bike your referring to as no information? But most water cooled engines would have two seals to seal the impeller shaft (which circulates the coolant) these seals usually one each side of the inside engine case where impeller goes through one of them holds oil out and the other holds water in hence they called oil and water seals if your sure not head gasket these seals are about the only other way water can get in
I love Yamaha motocross bikes and other MX bikes as they have a specially purpose built hole in the water pump area so when you see it seeping coolant out it tells you straight away needs new oil and water seals
if it is this seal usually only one or the other has gone but no one would replace one with out the other you will see what I mean if you ever replace them as is complete pain just to swap one - you definitely would not want to repeat later to change the other one.
check your impeller shaft also as groves in the shaft is usually why the seal goes in the first place (you may want to replace the shaft whilst you there)
good luck

Ejecting oil

More than likely it came out of the crank case vent. Your intake valve could have been stuck open (for some reason) which pressurized the crank case.

I recommend a motorcycle transmission oil as it has the proper additives for a wet clutch. I like yamaha's trans oil plus for my bikes.10w40 motor oil will do in a pinch. and I like Yamaha's Yamalube S for oil injection systems.

Use 10w40 motor oil in the gear box. Don't use any synthetic oils, oil marked "EC", or oil with "special" additives. Use Two Stroke ENGINE oil in the pump.
